It has been brought to your attention that a complaint has been filed by one of the department’s female officers alleging instances of sexual harassment by her supervisor. Introduction
In today's corporate environment, sexual harassment has become quite common
and most
women fall prey to this. The harassment can take any form depending upon how the recipient
reacts. The very reaction of the recipient can decide the duration and severity of the sexual
harassment. Harassment can turn out to be fatal for the recipients and in some cases they even
commit suicide. This tells us the severity of sexual harassment. Despite several policies to check
sexual harassment at workplaces, on can find many instances in our society. Apart from the state
sexual policies, the organizations should have their own sexual harassment policies complying
with the policy guidelines given by Supreme Court decisions. If the organizations strictly apply
their own policies, they will be able to uproot this. I am assigned to prepare the sexual harassment
policies for police department.
Sexual Harassment Policy Draft
Requests for sexual favors, unwelcome sexual advances, and other physical or verbal
conduct of sexual nature are termed sexual harassment when:
1) A decision of employment made against that individual affecting him/her on the basis of
submission or rejection of unwelcome conduct; or
2) Unwelcome conduct tends to interfere unreasonably the work performance of the individual or
creates a hostile, intimidating and abusive environment at work place.

 Verbal abuse that is of sexual nature
 Grabbing or touching having sexual intent
 Repeatedly brushing up against an individual or standing too close to him/her
 Repeatedly asking an individual to socialize in off-duty hours when he/she has said or
indicated of not being interested
 Leaving objects or giving gifts that are sexually suggestive
 Repeatedly having sexual gestures
 Posting or making sexually demeaning or offensive cartoons, pictures or other materials
 Unwelcome conduct sexual in nature during off-duty that tends to affect the environment
The victim of harassment can be anyone whether male or female. The victim can be even the
same sex as the harasser. Also, the harasser might be co-worker, supervisor, other department's
employee or non-employee having business relationship with that department.
The Department's Responsibilities
The prevention of sexual harassment calls for the department to take active participation. It is deep
