Introduction
My Health Record is the online summary of the key health information of people of Australia. This has been enabling individuals to access t
heir health information through online platform securely from anywhere and at any time. To access health information, any computer device or mobile device with internet connection is required. My Health Record has also been allowing people to manage their health information easily and allows them to share it with their healthcare providers (Australian Digital Health Agency, 2020). Allowing the healthcare providers to get access of the important healthcare information, assist in providing appropriate care and treatment to the patients. Through this project analysis, the factors, which led to the success of this project and the factors, which could have led to the failure of the project are discussed through 5 IPECC phases. Ethical considerations associated with the project will also be discussed through IPECC phases.
Factors Contributing to the Success of My Health Record
The Government of Australia invested heavily to provide the nation with an e-health solution named My Health Record. The platform was designed and developed to combat with the challenges the healthcare system is facing and to keep up the pace with the changing technological landscape of the healthcare system. Success factors of the project, when analysed through the lens of IPECC phases are as below.
Initiating
This phase of project management focuses on determining the need of the project and it is decided in this phase that whether the project will turn out to be beneficial for the users or not. In case of My Health Record, in the initiation phase, the patient’s need for e-health solutions was determined. It was assumed that this e-solution would turn out to be beneficial for the users, as it will help to develop a better relationship between the patients and care providers (Muhammad & Wickramasinghe, 2017). It was further assumed that this solution would help to improve the quality of care. Determining the healthcare needs of the customers using the advanced technological landscape led to the success of the project.
Planning
The planning phase of the My Health Record Project included setting up of realistic goals, deciding on the budget, understanding the needs of the users, analysing the proposed system in accordance with the needs of the users and many more. The factors, which ensured the success of the project through the planning phase, were huge investments in e-health services and incorporation of latest software and technologies to achieve the realistically set goals (Andargoli, 2020). The system planned is capable enough to change the direction of healthcare in Australia. The scope statement of the project was clear and milestones were achieved according to the Gantt chart leading to the completion of project within the time and budget constraints, making it a huge success.
Executing
This phase includes the development and implementation of the project deliverables. Implementation of the My Health Record system was effective and successful owing to the use of opt-out business model. This helped in successful delivery of the My Health Record system. Implementation planning and execution was appropriate, and was supported by appropriate governance arrangements. Furthermore, the communication activities were appropriate to inform the healthcare recipients and healthcare providers. All these factors contributed towards the success of the project.
Controlling
This phase focuses on measuring the performance of the project and helps to keep a check on the progression of the project. All this is done to ensure...
