Introduction
The Big Bash League is a professional Australian T20 cricket league that started from 2011 from the Cricket Australia. Previously it was KFC T20 Big Bash, which was replaced by the Big Bash League, and it covers eight cities based on franchises (Pierce et al., 2019). The competition is sponsored by KFC outlet since the inception of the competition.
It is same as the Indian Premier League, which started since 2008 and follows the same game plans. There is even Women’s Big Bash league being played in Australia to motivate the game of cricket among the women all over the world (McLachlan, 2019). The tournament format is same as the leagues, going on for past couple of years except the inaugural season.
1. Social or Economic Development
The Big Bash league is changing the cricket as a sport in Australia. The game is becoming more intense and spectators are going insane for a competitive match with a greater number of boundaries and high scores. I found that they visit the stadiums or shows interest on the game just to watch entertainment. None of the spectators deeply supports any of the teams in such tournaments and always gets satisfied if they get a good show at the end of the match.
The leagues are also creating opportunities for the young players of the country with potential to play in the national team and this league is becoming a testing ground for those players. This league changes the fate of the players of Australia striving for exposure in the cricket team of Australia (Vine, 2016). This is creating opportunities for them as well as is securing the future of the sports in the market by keeping the interest of the spectators intact to the game.
