Contact Tracing is initiated if a Contact
tracing Officer identifies a person in suspected condition or is found to be in close contact with the person with notified condition. They are authorized to disclose the confidential information and provide the persons information to minimize or prevent the transmission of TB. Screening of subjects is done. On confirmation of active TB, the treating officers make clinical judgment on the basis of bacteriological and radiological findings. After the initial review of the cases, the patients confirmed with sputum smear positive test the nurse reviews each case for environmental and behavioral factors to assess infectiousness. Close household contacts should be invited for screening and AFB smear microscopy of all index cases within 7 days of diagnosis (Centre for Disease Control Department of Health, 2016). The subjects may be divided into three categories: High risk, medium risk and low risk group. Post screening all the contacts should be recommended a follow up. Documentation and further action in each case is recommended. The screening results are attached to the patient health records.
