I went to Alcatraz Island with several companions two months prior. We boarded the ferries which is available at any moment. The planned ferry voyage to the island takes 20 minutes. Despite the intimidating lines, everything was nicely organised. We ascend to the penitentiary block, where one may pick up a headset for a self-guided tour. It is essential to take the audio tour to learn more about the prison's specifics and the lives of the inmates, as well as their families and prison guards. We took our time seeing the prison wing. The history was intriguing, and the talk was in-depth.
For an organised excursion, one must make reservations for both the outbound and return trips. If visiting San Francisco, you really must do this. We only had to swim 1.5 miles from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco's northern shore, then run 7 miles back to Crissy Field over the Golden Gate Bridge.
