Activity 4: Statutory Law (Weight: 1)
For this activity, let’s begin by taking a look at federal law.
For a quick review of how a bill becomes a law, see the videos “How a Bill Becomes a Law” and “What Schoolhouse Rock Missed” in this Module.
Let’s next look at state law. As we’ve discussed, you will see many parallels to the federal system, even though some of the terminology is a little different. For example, at the federal level, the legislative branch consists of “Congress,” while in the State of North Carolina, our legislative body is called “the General Assembly.” However, both Congress and the General Assembly of North Carolina are comprised of a Senate and a House of Representatives.
