Each of your answers should be in the form of a short essay—do not use point form. You may use either APA or MLA style, but the important thing is to choose a format and apply it consistently and honestly throughout your essay. Introduction
As per the common observation of the social customs, at normative level, integrity is possibly one of the most discussed topics. There are many f
acets of integrity, which are applicable to individual skills and growth of personality as leader. At the same time, there are some individuals, who act as the source of inspiration to many others because they have shown immensely potent skills of integrity in their personality (Yang, Liu, Wang & Zhang, 2019).
Some of these leaders appear from the business worlds who become the role model to several other professionals. It all happens due their aura and integrity of personality. The following paper is the analysis of Lynn’s claims about the process of developing integrity in people especially in the professionals of business world.
Theoretical Understanding of Integrity
At first, it is significant to note here that the concept of integrity came into existence in 1987 when Lynn introduced the multiple dimensions of integrity and how they are used to enhance the values of personality in business world. Lynn provides detailed overview of integrity in clear form and content and at the same time, she analyzes how integrity is useful in presenting the positive sides of self-identity. In the modern business world, as mentioned by Engelbrecht, Heine and Mahembe (2017), recognition is seen as one of the most significant standpoints of growth of professionalism.
However, this recognition stems from the sources like having fully composed mind, integrated level of skills and experience in work as well as farsighted approach to succeed. In order to show composed state of mind, Lynn projects that there should be formal alignment in the practical approach of professional with his or her principles of working in professional world. This coherence should not get affected by any condition whether it is normal or it is crucial. As supported by Karthikeyan and Benjamin (2019), consistency makes someone appreciable in the general context of work.
Secondly, Lynn investigates through the potential barriers that are often posed to this integrity and consistency based perception. The theory of consistency, no doubt, is universally applicable to develop strong and positive attitude towards work, but there are some specific conditions, which may deviate the attention of the professional from this consistency in work. Consequently, the approach of integrity gets affected (Ciulla, 2020).
Specifically, Lynn differentiates between the personal pleasures as sources of motivation and having strict set of moral values that do not get affected by any means. In other words, for Lynn, a person who works on the grounds of satisfying his state of pleasure cannot be referred as a man of integrity. However, a person having rules and regulation at moral level that cannot be shaken by any external or internal pressure is the person of integrity (Atwijuka & Caldwell, 2017).
For example, for the sake of personal pleasure or material gains, fake promises are being made in business world at times; there are companies who make promises to their customers about services, which they cannot even afford. However, just to make sure that they need to earn extra revenue through building trust, they make foul means of earning by these promises.
In the condition of coherence and integrity, the professional working in such organizations will refuse to follow the fake promises because it will be against his or her will and moral values (McCann, Sparks & Kohntopp, 2017). The professional will not break the trust of the customers because his work ethics will not let him or her do so. Such professionals can be referred as the persons of integrity here because they maintain their coherence and integrity.
Practical Implications
The practical implications of integrity in leadership are diverse; they become challenging in the modern context of business world. It can be understood by a simply conclusive...
