Topic: Does the ‘host’ have a right to put pressure on a guest to be a ‘good guest’?
Introduction
To make everyone around feel more relaxed is the whole definition of courtesy, respect and good manners. Both as a host and a householder, the primary objective is to make the individuals with whom they temporarily reside feel relaxed and at ease. As the host, facilitating the stay and planning for the appearance will becomes a job. If the guest has embraced host's invitation, a day or so in advanced, host may want to start preparing.
Arguments
Guest has to follow the house rules of the host’s house, even though host is the one, who has invited the guest. Every house has some rules. It is one of the important and main things to ask, when entered host’s house. Host usually connect and share the rules with all members of the group who are going to be with host and highlight the importance of upholding them.
Another argument says that it is important that guest do not bring much belongings along with him or her. Just carry what is in need for the visit. The host should not be behaving as if they own the place. Outside the law of the hospitality, host has authorised to reside in her home generously, so approach the honour with kindness and concern.
As stated by Lazar (2018), there are territorial limits to the positions of host and guest. A host only hosted on the area, for which he assumes jurisdiction on a specific occasion. He cannot sustain his position outside it. A visitor will not be a visitor because he has rights and obligations on the field. It is thus that the courtesy of taking a visitor to the doorway or the gate both highlights a concern for his well-being as long as he is a visitor, but it also determines exactly that point where he stops to be because when the host leaves his responsibility.
Aziz and Selamat (2016) have explained that if guest insults his host or shows animosity or competition, he must respect himself, a host of his. If the guest subverts his host’s function, He will do this by believing what has still not been given, by prioritising himself at home, supporting himself, issuing orders to his host's dependants and so on. If he makes statements or requests, contrary to his free will, he overrules the host’s right to excommunicate, even where tradition determines whether he may choose to ordain.
