Background:

What is a Business Model Canvas?

The business model canvas was invented byAlex Osterwalder, cofounder of Strategyzer. You can access theStrategyzersite to download templates and tutorials of the business model canvas and then adapt them to your own goals and needs. Osterwalder developed the business model canvas to addressnine componentswithin an organization:

  • Key partners. Who are the most important people involved?

  • Key activities. What activities drive the most value?

  • Key resources. What resources are needed to create value?

  • Value proposition. What key problems do your products or services solve?

  • Customer relationships. What do your customer segments expect from you?

  • Channels. How does your value proposition reach your customers?

  • Customer segments. Who are you creating value for?

  • Cost structure. What are the essential costs within your business?

  • Revenue streams. How do customers reward you for the value you provide?

When a business model canvas is filled out correctly, almost anyone can understand your business and its functions. They can see why customers love your business (or will love it) and how it is profitable.

Evolving consumer mindsets and behaviours, emerging technologies and platforms, and the relentless need to innovate and bypass competitors are among the biggest challenges and opportunities for travel and tourism industry brands.

For example, a recentstudy by Expedia Media Solutions found travellers are more concerned about their experiences than they are with getting the best deal early in the decision-making process. That puts the pressure on travel brands to truly think outside the box—across all stages of a traveller’s journey. There are many examples of start-up businesses in Australia in recent years.

Assessment of Food and Beverage Industry
Innovation in any business model is a radical approach; the industrial evolutions of all times have justified it. In fact, innovation and creativity in business models have optimism as the first input; the innovative business idea gives expectation of success and market stability for a longer duration. However, various risk driven factors are associated with every innovated business model (Betzold, Carew, Lewis & Lovell, 2018). In the aftermath of the pandemic outbreak of covid19, the hospitality and tourism industry is possibly one of the most affected business sectors of the world.
In Australian context as well, the effects of the pandemic outbreak can be seen in the nominal number of local and international tourists visiting various Australian places. The following is an analysis of the start-up business idea of opening new restaurant in Brisbane after the covid19. It includes the review and recommendations related to the nine components of the business model, as given in business model canvas.
Brief Overview of Restaurant Start-up: Post Covid19 Fine Dining Criteria
At first, it is significant to note here the changes that have occurred in pre and post covid19 situations in terms of establishing new restaurant business in Australia (Brisbane in particular) though, the post covid19 guidelines are globally acceptable norms. Therefore, they are applicable to any particular regions where business start-up is taking place. According to the general trend in setting up restaurant in a local area such as Brisbane, the behavioural approach of the customers and other key stakeholders is relevant to review.
Around 20% of the locals as well as the visitors prefer to have local food tasted at least once during their visiting hours. The process of filtering the best outlets initiates from this source point, which can be helpful to structure new business strategies (Qiu & Hou, 2020). This is the general ideology that places where the best local food is served become hotspots for fine dining.
Secondly, if the fast food services are added to the conventional restaurant style, it addresses the gaps that people generally see between the restaurants and the fast food service centres. These two places are often dealt with separate perspectives of fine dining, which creates the gap between the fast food and the normal food, for which the local region is known. The current start-up idea will combine fast food and local fine dining trends altogether that is in the post covid19 situation, the start-up having combinations of business models will have more chances to gain success in a short period of time (Qiu & Hou, 2020).
Further, in a proposed restaurant start-up in Brisbane, it is necessary to convince the customers that the place adherers strictly to the covid19 guidelines to serve the food. The service deliver mode of the place can be enhanced by the idea that the place is having options to deliver safe food to the customers because it is prepared in a sanitised environment as well as the food is cooked with proper hygiene norms (Aaltojarvi, Kontukoski & Hopia, 2018).
The guidelines about the food and catering services will be followed and the customers will be encouraged to review the services by observing the preparations of the food as well as the services offered to them. In other words, a fair image of the restaurant will be built by having safe delivery of food along with convincing the local and international visitors about the process, through which the food is...
