ASSESSMENT TASK 1: DESCRIPTION 3.3 Assessment Task 1: Australian Port Operations Aligned subject learning outcomes • CLO2: Apply critical thinking to address issues in business • CLO3: Convey information clearly and fluently, in high quality written form appropriate for their audiences • SLO1: Describe the strategic tangible assets of a firm, the value chain, and explain how to harmonise the value chain to achieve strategic outcomes • SLO2:Explain the fundamentals of operations management and the seamless integration between inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics and the customer • SLO5a & b: Create an environment for cooperative and constructive working relationships with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds Group or individual Team of 3 members Weighting 20%: 2000 words (+/- 10%) Due date Week 4 (Wednesday, 7 December 2016) Under the broad umbrella of “Operations Management” this group assessment is based around an Australian Port (Shipping) Complex ( e.g. Port of Brisbane, Port of Melbourne, Port of Sydney, etc.) Your task is to identify and analyse the port operations, its value chain and integration between inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics and the end user - ‘a customer’. You are required to identify the linkages back to the theory you are studying in LB5230 - Managing Strategic Resources and Operations. The assignment will broadly cover the material you have studied up to, and including, session five (Part I of your text book), class room discussions, concepts and Journal articles or other external material, you have covered in class, or as part of your individual readings. In particular, your answer to assessment 1 will encompass the following broad themes: Overview of your selected port The day-today-operation of the port – a typical 24 hour cycle  Linkages betweenthe port operations and LB5230 theory Sustainability within the selected port precinct
