  • Ancient Male Rulers:Select any two (2) of these rulers: Ramses II, Shihuangdi, Constantine, Ashoka, Pericles, or Charlemagne. Select rulers from different cultures.


  • Ancient Female Rulers:Compare the Tang Empress Wu Zetian (also known as Empress Wu or as Wu Zhao; ruled China around 690-705 AD) with either the Pharaoh Cleopatra (ruled Egypt around 51-31 BC) or the Pharaoh Hatshepsut (ruled Egypt around 1478-1458 BC).

The two Greats- Asoka and Constantine
Introduction
History has witnessed many influencers but not all have been crowned great. Some people leave a mark on history that cannot be erased and the
reafter they become legends and heroes. Asoka and Constantine were kings who did not beat to anyone’s rhythm. They rose to power and changed the course of their nations forever. In this paper, we will observe a brief comparison between Asoka, the Indian King and Constantine. Asoka ruled nearly the whole of the Indian Subcontinent from 268 to 232 BCE. He is also sometimes known as Asoka the great (Lahiri, 2015). Constantine, on the other hand, was a Roman Emperor who ruled both the east and the west of the Roman Empire from 272 to 337 AD... The reason for my choice of these two emperors is that both these emperors changed their countries through unprecedented reforms.
Similarities and Differences
The Kings, Asoka and Constantine headed great empires of their time. They enjoy many similarities. Both are often referred with the title “The Great” due to the exceptional contribution they made to their nations. Both the emperors created a united empire for their respective nations. At the time of Asoka and the Maurya dynasty, India was divided into many mini-states that were ruled by different kings. Asoka conquered the whole of the Indian subcontinent and united the lands as one. Constantine I also unified the people under his Kingdom. He joined the East and West and ruled it as a single Emperor (Rapp, 2000). Another similarity between the two kings would be the establishment of a secular state. Both the Kings established a secular rule in their respective kingdoms where religious freedom became a mandate that could not be broken. Asoka proclaimed and spread Buddhism; however he did not enforce it on any one. Constantine I stopped the persecution of Christians in his kingdom. He is also said to have embraced the Christian...
