Trait Theory Perspective
Through the lens of trait theory, one may examine Walter White's character from "Breaking Bad," highlighting observable behavioural patterns and personality traits. Walter exhibits a number of characteristics from the Big Five model, including neuroticism, openness, and conscientiousness. Walter's meticulousness and attention to detail are indicative of his conscientiousness; these qualities help him in his dual roles as a high school chemistry teacher and a methamphetamine maker. From making meth to plotting crimes, his systematic approach to work demonstrates a great sense of responsibility and devotion.
Walter's readiness to accept unorthodox pathways and take chances in order to accomplish his goals is a sign of his openness. After learning that he has cancer, he decides to go into the drug trade in order to support his family, even if doing so has moral and legal ramifications. His openness to non-traditional ideas is demonstrated by his readiness to experiment and question social norms (Agarwal, 2020). However, as the show goes on, Walter's personality also exhibits characteristics linked to neuroticism. He experiences a rise in anxiety, paranoia, and erratic behaviour as he learns to negotiate the perils of the criminal underground.
