In this review paper I am going to discuss about urban environment sustainability, which is a very essential part of urban areas for planning and reporting, livability, which is the sum of factors that result in the way of living of a society or a community, climate change mitigation, which is the reduction or control of climate change that can be done by us and lastly, adaptation, which here means our power to get accustomed with a new lifestyle in order to lessen the change in climate. My keyword being zero waste city, I’m going to point out how all the subjects mentioned above can be used, implemented and related to a sustainable city with zero waste. By zero waste city we generally think of a City which reuses or recycles all the things that we generally throw out or tag as waste. Lets discuss in detail about the zero waste city and its ability to lead us to a sustainable and a better future.
Let us start with the first subject, which is urban environment sustainability. The urban environment sustainability is examined under the factors consumption-based, metabolism-based and complex system approaches. Over population and proximity has let us to a point where we’re now running out the natural resources. That is because we took those resources provided by nature for granted and now that we’re seeing a possibility of running out of those we are converted about the environment. The consumption based approach is an approach where the environmentalists make a link between the urban levels and their consumption of resources as well as the impact that their consumption is making inside or outside the boundary of the city. It has been proved that consumption based approach is the most efficient, effective and mathematical way to calculate the patterns of consumption. And by minimising the consumption in a city we can somewhat assure that with time we’ll be lining in a zero waste city. That is because when the consumption rate is barred people won’t have much to consume and hence they will set their priorities right about what’s most important for them. Thus, they will avoid buying things that are unnecessary and may turn into a waste after some time. Second comes metabolism based approach. The metabolism based approach has an objective of representing in urban region on the basis of raw facts and data that shows the local production as well as consumption....
