The case study “Ariba Implementation at MED-X: Managing Earned Value” emphasizes on Ariba. Ariba is an organization, which provides e-procurement solutions. It suggests solutions to companies to help in the expenditure incurred during procurement and to bring it down through its applications. Ariba applications here were developed to improvise the bottom-line outcomes further (Jeffery, Norton, Gershbeyn & Yung, 2017).
MED-X INC was a pharmaceutical company with multinational presence. Based in the United States of America (USA), it has a number of fifty-four plants in total and the headquarters are situated in Houston. MED-X, to decrease its expenditure on procurement intended to include Ariba’s platform.
Answer 1: Underperforming Component
The project implementation plan has two components:
i. Technical Infrastructure and
ii. Software Customization
When comparing the related data, it can be found that the component, technical infrastructure, is under performing. It can be said by observing that it is over budget and along with that, it is also behind the time schedule. The calculation of the Schedule Performance Indicator (SPI) of the technical Infrastructure Project is 0.944, the Control Ratio (CR) is 0.866 and the Cost Performance Index (CPI) is 0.917. Considering this, it can be said that the component of technical infrastructure is the underperforming component.

The component of Software Customization is within budget whereas the component of Technical Infrastructure is over the set budget.
