BSBWOR502 - Team Performance Plan

Case Scenario:

You have just been employed as the leader-manager of a newly formed lobby group that has been put together to the purpose of identifying and solving the problem of why there is such apathy regarding recycling and in particular sorting the recycling.

For example, where do you put batteries, bottle lids, soft plastics and plastic bags? What do you do about straws? Can plastic forks, spoons and knives go in the recycle bin? Are bottle lids too small to be picked up by the factory sorting machines? All "scrunchable" plastic including shopping bags, plastic food packaging, fruit netting and dry-cleaning bags can be recycled although most often not via your home recycle bin. So where do you recycle soft plastics and how do you get people to find that out and get them to do it? At least 20 per cent of what is in household garbage bins right now should be in household recycle bins.

The ultimate goal is to achieve similar recycling rates as the world leader Germany who recycles more than 66% of municipal waste at (see graph). Germany’s total waste volume was 402.2 million metric tons in 2015. Of that, 317.7 million metric tons were recycled. As reported by the Times:

"According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Germans happily sort 65 percent of their waste into an array of color-coded bins to be collected for reuse or incineration. South Koreans come in second, recycling 59 percent of their refuse. The United States recycles 35 percent; that's only slightly above the average for the developed countries that belong to the organization, but it is miles ahead of Turkey, where 99 percent of all trash ends up in a landfill."

Your objective is three-fold. You aim is to get people to recycle more, to recycle everything that is recyclable and to place the recycle in the correct place. You have one year to achieve positive results but if you fail, you and your team will be dissolved. You have been allocated four (4) staff and a modest budget for printing of materials, staff training and office equipment. You also have access to a standard office and its resources. You do not have an advertising budget and you do not have the power to change laws. You must find out what the problem is and find a solution to it by any means you are able to think up, by develop incentives or organising information programs of sorts perhaps. You may use your staff in any capacity you see fit, within normal working hours and conditions, and you may name the lobby group as you see fit. You must create a Team Performance Plan and then execute it.

Assessment Task:

Write the Team Performance Plan

To get a satisfactory grade (S) - your Plan MUST be a professionally formatted single document. It MUST to be a professionally formatted "Report" that could be used! It MUST contain a title and have NORMAL size and style font, have page numbers and must NOT contain blank pages!. References are not required but the words have to be yours, DO NOT PLAGIARIZE, don't just copy and paste words from the internet. Do this assignment individually or MAXIMUM two (2) in a team, and if you work in a team your cover-page must state who the team members are. It MUST also contain ALL of the following headings (each heading should have as a minimum one paragraph of 125-200 words):

Cover-page!- It must contain: Name and location of College, Student Name, Student Id, Unit Code, Unit Name, Assessment Name, Assessment Submission Date and Name of Trainer.

Introduction– The purpose and reason for writing the plan, what has happened and what your human & physical resources are, the name of your team

The Problem- Explain the issue and identify what the problem is – explain why this is a problem

Solving the Problem– Explain how you intend to fix the problem with the resources that you have

Team Goals & KPI– What you aim to accomplish and how you intend to measure it

Team Performance Plan– Create the plan that you will present to your new team. A Team Performance Plan is a detailed plan used to:

  • Provide future direction of the team.

  • Identify the desired performance levels of the team.

  • Identify how these performance levels will be achieved.

  • Provide guidance and direction to the team.

  • Measure progress towards the desired performance levels

The objective of this assessment is three-fold. You need to address each objective.

First, you have to identify and define what the problem is. Why does it happen? What is the problem?

Second, you must find a solution to the problem. The solution is directly related to what you are identifying the problem to be. How do you solve the problem that you now have identified?

Third, you need to determine how you will measure if your solution is accurate. You need to demonstrate that you are able to set quantifiable KPI’s which can be used, in one years’ time, as a measure to see if you have been successful.

1. Introduction
The report is being prepared for the use of finding the solution for the problem of waste management in Adelaide in Australia. The beaches are getting dirtier and landfills are increasing with non-biodegradable materials. It has been observed that despite being directives form the government the locals are not following the right method to segregate their waste. We as Perfect Solutions (Lobby Group) will be assisting in solving this problem, by stressing on the increased recycling, use of recycle products and involve everything that can be recycled. I… (Manager), X (Recycling specialist), Y and Z (Training in charge of their respective zones) and A (Implementer and feedback collector).
2. Identifying and Defining the Problem
The problem is waste management in Australia, which is as compared to other developed countries is in very less numbers. In real Australia is unprepared to deal with the situation. It is estimated that 54% of waste was exported to different countries for further processing. Despite this, the public places can be seen with it. The problem is hazardous nature of waste as it contains chemical discharges, combustibles dust explosions, moving parts, guarding hazards from machines and other waste, which can be segregated at first place but mixed in this due to malpractice (Palomar et al. 2019).
3. Finding Solutions to the Problem
The available options with the team are:
i. Education: Only directives are not enough. Locals should be educated at various levels to use the scraps and entertain multi use plastic. The single use plastic should be banned by the government (Sakai et al. 2017).
ii. Segregation: The instructions for the right way of doing segregation need to be communicated implemented and checked by the municipal authorities so that segregation of waste can be done effectively to ensure waste management and recycling of stuff.
iii. Use of scraps: The material should be thrown only when it is not eligible for re-use or further processing.
The best option is segregation at this point of time, with which team will go ahead.
4. Ways to Measure the Accuracy of the Solution
The key performance indicators will be environmental audits, percentage of waste generated, the amount of waste exported to Asia and the percentage of waste...
