Introduction to Global Leadership
Leadership is not a naïve terminology rather it has gained i
ts importance on a global platform. In present times, a leader has to ensure its presence in multiple regions to manage different teams (Salih, 2020). They have to enrich their experience through inter disciplinary transactions so that their learning about different culture, understanding varied expectations, knowledge of communication technology, managing challenges and establishing coordination among teams can be done effectively.
The people are different in terms of their experiences, their education, their upbringing, cultures, religion and faith. Global leaders need to have resilience and authenticity to take a stand for the purpose. Global teams are complex and thus handling them is an art. It requires specific skill set, which is used to manage such situations. Global leaders need to follow a matrix, which suits this diverse requirement and at the same time flexible enough to accommodate changes due to environment (Van Dierendonck et al. 2017).

Global environment and the changing perspectives of the workforce have demanded the changing leadership styles at the workplace. Employees want to be empowered, free and to want to work in their own terms. The only boundaries, which they follow, is deadline. They are visionaries, smart and technologically equipped. They respect experiences and knowledge, it does not matter what age the person holds (Forbes, 2019).
They have their own rules and they prefer to follow them. Young generation is dynamic, optimistic and agile in their approach. The leaders need to accept this behaviour and they have to modify the rules for managing teams of these energetic groups (Tsai, 2018). As it is known to everyone that change is only constant thing in this competitive world so it is highly required that, global organisations take this opportunity to change the style of managing workforce. The HR functions need to be flexible enough to adopt these changes as a futuristic approach.
Characteristics of a Global Leader
Strategic thinking: A global leader needs to have futuristic vision, which should be based on extensive knowledge and experiences gained over time. He should have long-term view for the business and market (Pacquiao, 2018).
Self-awareness: A leader needs to know his strength and weaknesses. It helps them to understand the areas, which need more attention and divergent perspectives. They know the importance of a specific quality and the way to use it for growth (Bonsu & Twum-Danso, 2018).
Communicator: It is way to rope all members in one group so that managing their work is possible with remote access also. It helps to build trust and improve relations within team.
Patience: The leader is impatiently patient. He knows the when to tap on opportunities so that expected results can be achieved (Forbes, 2019).
Inclusivity: The leader should know show to involve people from different background to achieve highest of performances. This include respecting differences and ensuring their engagement for the task.
Collaboration: The idea is to know when to enter into partnership to complete the projects with the right talent.
Inquisitiveness: A curious personality who is a learner and believe in exploring ways to improve the systems and the business model (Vietnam Power, 2016).
Flexibility: The leader should be flexible enough to accommodate changes in the plan and play with this power to get the projects completed on time. He knows that being flexible allows creativity to rise to surface and utilised for the growth.
