Background to the problem
Clause 4 of standard 1.2.3 of the Australia Food Standards Code (the code), eleven foods or substances are recognized as requiring declaration on the label for sale in the country. Allergens are substances that can cause an auto-immune response in the body. Declara
tion of these substances in the public forum will ensure that people have informed knowledge so that they are in a position to make better decisions about packaged food. The branch of public health that deals with the relationship between the natural environment and how it impacts the public is known as environmental health. An organized way of collecting information about the activities, characteristics, and results of a program is known as evaluation. Evidence collected determines value which further enhances decisions about the program. Various factors such as accountability, communication, measurement, and timely documentation can help to measure the results of a specific program. A lot of communities lack access to affordable food. Moreover, nutrition also is not served to all. This denies the public their right to procure healthy and affordable food. Work in public health deals with the policies and programs that promote human health and well-being so that the community thrives towards a healthy and safe environment. The two concepts of equity and justice are important for this branch of environmental health. Ensuring justice ensures easy accessibility of a healthy environment to all irrespective of class, sex, gender, or color. Equity, on the other hand, ensures that all stakeholders involved are given the authority of decision-making.
Identification of specific nature of the problem
Biological and environmental systems influence the development of food allergies. Apart from the individuals, the food processing industry also plays an important role in preventing food allergies. Development of allergies are most prominent in childhood because it is the time when children interact with numerous new systems including schools, parks, and community services. Various international initiatives have led to local actions on allergy awareness. Local governments make several decisions to improve the quality of the environment we live in and the depleting natural resources. Decisions taken at the local level greatly affect the overall quality of the environment of the retail market. In addition, state governments and federal governments formulate solutions that have far-reaching environmental applications. Public actions commonly have environmental repercussions and are often the most comfortable subject of effective methods of evaluation. The irresponsible use of natural resources and degrading quality of the environment around us should be subject to scrutiny. For the evaluation to be done effectively, one has to go through the program, plan the skills to carry out the evaluation, observe if necessary, time is allotted to the work, and seek financial resources. In the process, one also has to understand what is to be evaluated, who should be the stakeholder and how can they be involved.
Aim of the Project
The clear aim of the project is to understand the importance of improving allergin awareness amongst the food retailers. The actions taken at the individual levels are universally recognized which further enhances global improvements in global health.
