Data Analysis Assignment:

The objective of this homework is for you to execute the discussed steps in Excel.

You are given with a dataset of restaurants and their online ratings from April 2016 to Sep 2016. The dataset consists of 2 sheets: a) Restaurant Information and b) Reviews. After 1st July 2016, some of these restaurants started offering a discount greater than 10%. It is intuitive that a discount will help in increasing sales. Your assignment is to examine if there is any relationship between offering the discounts and online user reviews.

Your submission will involve two elements. First, the fully constructed excel spreadsheet with the four steps discussed in the lecture, must be submitted (load the data, create data model, merge two tables, and create a pivot table). Second, a word document with a one page summary of the insights you have found from analyzing the data. Note that for the analysis, you may use any tool (for regressions, t-tests etc.) that you are comfortable with. The emphasis of this exercise is more with respect to the first part as opposed to the second.

You can aggregate the reviews for each and compare the aggregates for before and after 1st

July 2016.

Be sure to create datamodels for the purpose of this exercise (avoid vlookup).

Reviews Table:

userrating: the rating an user gave on a scale of 1 to 5.

dateofreview: the date on which the review was given.

RestaurantID: the reference ID for the restaurants.

Restaurants Table:

RestaurantID: the reference ID for the restaurants.

Discount: is 1 if the restaurant offered a discount after 1st

July, else 0.
