As we are a week away from the last week in the course we have been tasked to review the final project. The basics without background is that you work at a hospital and have been tasked to evaluate the change of the current accreditation organization (The Joint Commission) your organization uses. This is a fairly easy task considering accreditation is the new industry standard, making accreditation a consumers market. "An accreditation source should be selected to fit an organization's mission, vision and culture. Simply put, the accrediting source must match the organization's complexity, clinical focus and values" (2014). Accreditation ties directly into quality standards, continual improvements, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. In order to properly meet the criteria for the Unit 5 deliverable we have to come up with a research plan. My plan is simple full on good old fashioned quality data mining. The first thing to do is to understand the organization (Magnet Hospital) I work for, analyzing, investigating, and surveying it holistically. Since the organization we work for will be hypothetical I will use qualitative and quantitative data results to determine the performance of magnet hospitals on average. Next I will briefly describe the Joint Commissions standards and accreditation protocols. I will then choose three alternative options for accreditation. I will analyze their standards and accreditation protocols along with the industry best practice standard alternative. On top of providing the three options I will briefly evaluate the organizations performances and customer satisfaction as ac-creditors. Finally I will provide my opinion on the best possible option out of the three alternatives based purely on the qualitative and quantitative data results. In conclusion my research outline will focus various types of data; opinion based results, staff and patient statements, performance data reports, and numerical data.

You mentioned the exact things you will be researching and it made it very easy to understand. You have two major topics you are going to research. Do you think there is anything outside of those two topics that would contribute to your research paper? I think that before managed care organizations I will research regulatory requirements such as federal organizations like the CMS. Lets not forget about the different accreditation laws, requirements and companies, that is a lot to research as well.
The project due in Unit 5 is about quality improvement in the health care organization accreditation. The project prompt explains that healthcare quality accreditation agencies, like the Joint Commission, play an important role in restoring the public’s trust in healthcare organizations. The prompt reports that in 1998 around 98,000 people died due to preventable medical errors. While these organizations were created out of good will and good intention, they were not all created equally. I will take the prompt seriously and do my best to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each accrediting body, besides the Joint Commission. I feel that this project will be helpful to my career as the most well-known is the Joint Commission and it is probably appropriate to familiarize myself with other options.

n order to research for any project, I would first research the topic within the online tools that are provided MUSE and the online library. Then once I have used those resources I would then start researching on the internet o make sure that I have done the research that is needed in order to produce a well thought out paper. Also to help me organize the data that I have gathered, that when I would sort my information by category so that I will be able to have a written outline of the way that information would be outlined within the paper. I would then determine if their were any subtopics that may need to be addressed in order to give the reader a clear picture of what the writer is trying to convey to the reader. As always any information that I have collected, I always read the information before making the decision to use it for that particular project. Because there will be times that you will find information when researching but upon discovery you will find that its not suitable for the project you are doing at this time. Once the outline has been written that's when I will definitely make sure that I have enough information for each topic and that some articles are not repeating the same information, if so then I would determine which article has the best information and then find another source to replace the one that has been discarded. Once all of the above steps have been made, that's when I will start writing the paper and organizing the data in order to ensure that the paper is written in such a way so that the reader can identify and understand what the writer is trying to convey.
