Introduction
Oh man I’m so frustrated with social d
istancing. This is so annoying. When will this be over? *Pause* I’m sick and tired of washing my hands. It’s so freaking dry. Can you believe I just purchased a hand sanitizer for $45?! I’m a post-graduate student from Macquarie University currently speaking to you from the comforts of my home thanks to all of us self-quarantining. I’m sure these woes sound very familiar to you as we give our loved ones calls on facetime and messages on WhatsApp. The funny thing is all these woes are a sound of privilege. For us be frustrated with social distancing, at least we have homes to be in. For us to be sick of washing our hands, at least we have access to running water and the intellectual ability to wash our hands. For us to complain about the prices of hand sanitisers, at least we have access to finances that enable us to purchase them and the physical ability to apply them on our hands. People reporting the worst mental and physical health (those in the bottom 20%) in 2006 were twice as likely to live in a poor-quality or overcrowded dwelling (Mallett et al. 2011). During this podcast, I want to bring this issue to the forefront of your minds, get you to think critically about the situation and also explore effective and practical solutions.
Covid-19 has taken world as surprise, less we know about the virus and its effect on the human body, least we...
