ELE4ACS/5PMC – Assignment 2018 (10% Subject Total) Due date: Friday 21st September (prior to midnight). Must be submitted via turnitin on LMS. No late assignment will be accepted. Literature Survey on GPS and GPS Antennas Overview: As part of ELE4ACS/5PMC you are required to undertake a major project. In 2018 this project will be the design, manufacture and testing of a GPS antenna. Prior to getting into the details of design we must firstly get a good grasp of the theory and undertake a thorough literature survey (literature review). A literature review or narrative review is a type of review article. A literature review is a scholarly paper, which includes the current knowledge including substantive findings, as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a particular topic. Literature reviews are secondary sources, and do not report new or original experimental work. Your Literature Review should provide a comprehensive review of the literature relevant to your topic. Assignment requirements: You are required to undertake a literature survey on the topic of GPS and GPS antennas that will serve as preliminary research for your major project. In fact, the work conducted in this assignment can be used directly as part of your final report. • The literature survey must be no longer than 4 pages typed including all references/citations. • The survey must have at least 8 references including research papers (journals/conferences), book/book chapters and others. • Wikipedia and other webpage sources are not scholarly articles and therefore must be avoided • Your literature survey should be structured and easy to follow • The literature survey should provide you and the reader with knowledge on the background of GPS and the reception of GPS signals with a specific focus on antennas, measurement and anything else that may be important in your major project. • You must use the IEEE referencing style o examples: https://libguides.murdoch.edu.au/IEEE/all • If you have never written a literature survey, please thoroughly read over the following: https://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/get-assistance/writing/specific-types-papers/writing- literature-review https://libguides.murdoch.edu.au/IEEE/all https://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/get-assistance/writing/specific-types-papers/writing-literature-review https://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/get-assistance/writing/specific-types-papers/writing-literature-review Grading of Assignment: The following rubric will be used to assess your literature review. Introduction
In this assignment, a literature survey is conducted on GPS and GPS antenna. Firstly we have to know about GPs and GPs antenna means how they work? why they are required? The full form of GPS is Global positioning System. It is basically a navigation system of radio which is satellite based that developed by United States government and used by United States Air force. Actually, it works as a navigation satellite system of globally and provide the information of time and geolocation to the receiver of GPS anywhere near or on the earth. The buildings and mountains are obstacles that block the GPs signal which are weak.
Overview of GPS and GPS antenna
There is no requirement of user to transmit any amount of data of GPS. It works independently like internet reception or telephone, the usefulness of the information of GPS can be enhanced y these technologies.
GPS Antenna
A device that provides help in boosting in reception the signal to the unit of GPS is known as GPS antenna. It may be an embedded unit or standalone unit. Mostly, the GPs antenna is situated here GPS unit removed itself from line of sight to sky. There are variety of range of budget of GPS antenna available in market means cheaper to costlier all rang of GPS antenna are available. In antenna, there is a GPS unit which is small in size and the location of it is inside the unit. A clear and unobstructed view of the sky is provided by GPS, GPS unit communicate with satellite to receive the best signal of microwave. A problem is faced when GPS unit inside the car, so external GPS antenna is used which mounted outside the car with the help of magnet and connected through cable. GPs antenna has differ types, these types are: Quard Helix style and Patch. The efficiency of both is equal. Microstrips are including by other type of antenna.
Analysis of GPS Antenna
There are several journals/ articles and book or book chapter to analysis the GPs antenna and GPS. The survey is conducted on GPS, GPPS signal reception with antenna, measurement and navigation. So we analyzed the GPS antenna through various articles and journals.
Article 1: On-Vehicle GPS Antenna Measurement
As all know, for vehicle application, the commonly used antenna is GPS antenna....
