WORKSHOP 1
Discuss the ethical issue in one of the following topics with a view to how individual choices in everyday life impact the environment:
Driving a big SUV that has high fuel consumption: There are certain choices made by an individual that requires repetition as it may harm the society in one way or other. In this case, where an individual chooses to ride a big SUV, it can be said that there might be certain issues. In today’s time driving cars has become necessary as people have to reach from one distance to another. The thing that I have observed in certain cases is that people do not make optimum use of resources. For individual driving, a big SUV is not necessary. In terms of ethical reasoning, the issue that arises is that people get affec6ed due to high fuel consumption. Driving an SUV with high fuel consumption contributes to the rise in global warming which is then considered to be unethical. The choice of driving a big SUV with high fuel consumption also affects the environment with the emission of greenhouse gases which causes global warming which has been already discussed earlier.
How to focus only on the continuing growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a disincentive for the achievement of sustainability outcomes.
In my view, it is very important for the government of a country to keep looking for the continuous growth of the Gross Domestic Product. With an increase in GDP, the country has the ability to become a powerful country around the globe. The very first way to increase GDP in a country is to increase employability (Montabon et al., 2016). It is the responsibility of the government of a country to increase the employment ratio in order to increase GDP. Investment in physical capital also helps in increasing the GDP of a country. These initiatives in the continuous growth of the Gross Domestic Product would eventually help in the achievement of sustainability outcomes (Gao and Bryan, 2017).
