ENIN 240 Assignment 01 Handout 2020 FALL v1-1 Assignment 01: Creative People & Places Overview: This assignment requires you to demonstrate your understanding of what constitutes a creative individual or environment, and the behaviours or factors that support creative output, by applying course concepts to an original case study. Deliverable is a single PDF file, a slidedoc containing a research report (minimum 500 words/maximum 1000 words) and two research visualizations (that’s also a minimum). Not sure what a slidedoc is? Research report: (minimum 500 words/maximum 1000 words) Select a creative person or place in your life to use as the basis for your case study. It is recommended but not strictly required that you have first-person experience of this person or place. You are encouraged to include your firstperson experience of this person or place, and your primary research material such your original photographs or sketches, screenshots, or interviews with your subject — in the report or the visuals, or both. Case studies are basically stories, so consider writing your report using a clear narrative arc (not sure what that means? Google it!). How you organize the sections of your case is up to you (be creative), but here are some examples of the kinds of questions/ideas you could address somewhere in your report: PERSON: What kind of creative person is this? Big C, mini C, Pro C, or little C? PERSON: Does this person have a set creative process, ritual, or habits? PERSON: Growing up, did this person have a creative education? A creative mentor? PLACE: How does this place support creative innovation? Culture? Resources? Habitat? PLACE: Is this space configured for individual or collaborative creative work? PLACE: Is there any kind of time pressure in this space? If so, what’s the impact on creativity? Your research report must include secondary research (to provide context) — a minimum of three external sources, find them online from scholarly or popular sites. Your report must also include course connections (to add academic value) — a minimum of three links to ideas found in readings and/or lectures. Be precise in your integration of sources—use in-text citations and annotated foot/ endnotes to explain the significance of each connection. Two Research Visualizations: Illustrate your case by creating two graphic deliverables (from the choices below) to depict and describe the creative person or place you selected — and your own creative research process. You may create: · a photo collage or inspiration/mood board (also known as information cascades) · a mind-map or affinity diagram (also known as brainstorming documents) · social-media-ready visual stories (3 mockup posts/thumbnails for Instagram, Pinterest etc.) Samples (not exemplars) of the visuals listed above will be posted on OnQ for information/ inspiration. Feel free to include more than two visualizations in your slidedoc. Page 1 of 2 A Note on Course Connections: The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate that you understand and can apply the creative thinking course content to analyze an original case of your choice. Again, your submission must include a minimum of three meaningful and precise connections to the course materials. Spend extra time going over the course content to find the terminology and ideas that will help you tell your research story. Apply and integrate references to the course readings and lectures, fully explaining how they connect to your case study using in-text citations and annotated foot/ endnotes. Cite the same lecture/video/reading more than once if need be, but be sure to distinguish different concepts therein if you’d like to count each toward the required three course connections. Works Cited: Combine all references into a central list of works cited — using any formal academic citation style (MLA, APA, IEEE, Harvard, etc). Remember: a minimum of three course connections and three external sources is required. You are welcome to exceed these minimum expectations :) Grading:. See course outline for general rubric. When graded, both style (for example: layout, quality of images, legibility, originality) and substance (for example: integration of course concepts, overall completeness, writing mechanics, evidence of research) are considered, so ensure you have enough time to create a deliverable that represents your best efforts in research and design. Incomplete assignments, and submissions that fail to deliver on key learning objectives are not eligible for a grade higher than F/48. , 2011, and has left behind the concept of making the world come closer than ever with digital transformation. But maybe the irony is that, by his own admission, for all the praise Jobs gets for revolutionizing the personal computer and mobile communication, Jobs was not like some creative professional but someone who knew in believing the curiosity inside and turn it into something much cooler (Baer, 2015). He thought that innovation was about understanding how a product was put together, and thinking about how to upgrade and expand that product to create something different. The principle of linking things was how Jobs explained how he mastered personal computers, cell phones, and film animation later on (Robertson, 2015).
    According to a book published by Jobs 'former girlfriend Chrisman Brennan, A Memoir of My Life with Steve Jobs, it was a trip to India in 1974 that helped shape Jobs' outlook on creativity. Jobs was struck by the fact that people in India did not value knowledge as much as instinct, and when he first developed the Macintosh computer and formed Apple, that was a cornerstone of how he would function.
