Amendment Selected: The amendment I have chosen is the 2nd amendment. What is the personal liberty defined in the Amendment? Right to Bear Arms. This is the personal liberty defined in the Amendment because the law cannot prevent the public to carry arms since they need to protect and defend themselves. Which landmark case will you use as your primary example? The District of Columbia v. Heller What is the landmark case about? Handguns are forbidden in the District of Columbia; nobody can carry a firearm without a license. Respondent, Dick Heller is a specialized police officer allowed to carry a pistol while in service and asked for a weapon registry he wished to keep at home. A similar registration was refused by the district. For breach of the second amendment, he brought a lawsuit (Ketter). List two current court cases relating to this amendment. The two court cases chosen by me that relates to the 2nd Amendment are of the following: 1. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. City of New York (2020) 2. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen (pending) How is your topic informative/explanatory? My topic will teach viewers about the Second Amendment and how it is being preserved despite being exploited in some cases. My topic is informative/explanatory because there is lots of resources for these court cases for me to get information on them (Frassetto). References: Frassetto, Mark Anthony.
