Context Public Health promotion programs are designed to improve the health of their target community. The success of these programs depends upon multiple factors, such as, understanding the target community, assessing the needs of that community, and applying the knowledge for needs assessment of the given community. These skills are essential for public health professionals to develop effective and sustainable programs for in their chosen field. This assessment will give student the opportunity to plan a health promotion program in an area of their interest by applying their knowledge of community public health, community engagement and application of health promotion theories and frameworks. Task Summary Students are required to write the health promotion intervention plan outline of 1000 words (+/- 10%) in length. Students are required to follow the instructions on how to develop their plan. You will be provided with a list of communities with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) by your Learning Facilitator and you can choose one of these to develop a specific health promotion intervention plan. Support your point of view with the credible evidence sources. In assessment 2 Part A, you are required to develop a plan outline which will used in assessment 2 Part B. 1. Choose one community with one selected non-communicable disease from the list provided by your Learning Facilitator. Disease: Depression Community: International Student. 2. Identify the social determinants of disease in the chosen community (such as age, gender, culture, lifestyle, socioeconomic status), the burden of disease and the significant impacts on health of the chosen community. 3. Assess the needs based on identified social determinant of health within the context of the chosen community and selected non-communicable disease. 4. Propose a health promotion intervention to be implemented in the chosen community to address the selected non-communicable disease. By applying theory and conceptual framework of health promotion this intervention should be at an appropriate level(s)- primary, secondary, or tertiary level. 5. Develop an outline for the health promotion intervention by applying one or more of the Ottawa Charter strategies as a framework for your program based on the needs and context of the chosen community 6. The health promotion intervention outline must include the following topics:  Background: Provide brief information of target community and the importance and significance of your health intervention program to address health issues related to the selected non-communicable disease in the chosen community based on community needs.  Aim(s): Clarify the aim(s) of your health promotion intervention.  Objectives: Outline the specific objectives for your health promotion intervention.  Timeframe: Plan the timeframe for your intervention with important milestones, including needs assessment, program planning, program design, implementation, evaluation, and reporting program outcomes.  Stakeholders: Consider relevant stakeholders that should be involved in your program such as health professionals, local government, Not-for-Profit organisation, schools, or other groups. Explain its impacts on health outcomes of the chosen community. Critical explain the importance and significance of your health intervention program to address health issues and community needs in the chosen community. Health intervention program (25%) Propose the health intervention by applying theory and conceptual framework of health promotion (which approach(es) that you will apply to your intervention -Medical, Behavioural or socioecological approach). Critically explain the consideration on appropriate level of health intervention (primary, secondary or tertiary level). Your intervention may involve 1-2 levels. The plan outline (35%) Apply the Ottawa Charter strategies of health promotion that relevant to your intervention (Enable, Mediate, or Advocate). Please choose only the relevant strategies. Use health promotion planning frameworks (Module 4) to help outlining your plan in the following headings: Aim(s) Explain the aim(s) of your health promotion intervention. You can have 1-2 aims, it is fine to have only one aim for your health promotion intervention. Objectives Outline the specific objectives for your health promotion intervention. Introduction
As the famous saying goes "Health is Wealth" relevance of this can be best understood today, when smallest imbalance in the body can create magnanimous losses both to our personal and financial health. Complete health of the body should be in balance, and if that is maintained then its glow radiates all across the body. By balance of body, health and fitness one shouldn’t narrow down to a situ
ation where there is mere absence of dysfunctionalities rather it is expression of growth that thrives especially on organic elements rather than inorganic supplements. By the virtue of this report, I have selected non-communicable disease as Depression and community that I want to target is International Students (Kolappa, K., Henderson, D.C. and Kishore, S.P., 2013).
In last three decades, we have seen a tremendous prevalence of depression in the students especially those who are joining from other part of the world. Mental depression in students have amplified especially in students that comes under the age bracket of teenage or in early to mid-twenties. Moreover, depression for internal students is approximately tripled that comes from different cultures and countries in the hope of better education and career. If not worked on this growing epidemic, then it can cripple the youth and hamper the overall growth (Prince, M., Patel, V., Saxena, S., Maj, M., Maselko, J., Phillips, M.R. and Rahman, A., 2007).
Social Determinants of Health
There is immense stress that emerges from financial issues, academics, pressure to get a good job after school and experience from failed relationships. For an international student these issues escalate since there is homesickness and students don’t even get the comfort to speak to their parents or siblings on the daily basis. There is drastic change in their lifestyle, people, environment along with problem of language barriers. Depression in the International Students is a serious health concern since there is a persistent essence of isolation, sadness, helplessness and loss of interest in various activities in life (Patel, V. and Saxena, S., 2014).
We live in fast paced world where personal life is often crushed and squeezed together in abundant activities. This frenetic chase to advance in career, hectic routine and irregular food habits have raised several lifestyle problems amongst these one of the major problems is Depression which is now witnessed in many international students.
Health Promotions and Intervention Plan
By the virtue of this health promotion and the intervention program we are in the process of empowering as well as embracing people to enhance the control over their actions and improve their health (Rebello, T.J., Marques, A., Gureje, O. and Pike, K.M., 2014). In order to attain the state of overall mental, physical and social well-being an individual will be able to realize his aspirations in order to satisfy the zeal to excel. Therefore, health is a positive framework that emphasizes the personal and social resources along with the physical abilities.
