Hi. I need help with this assignment on pathophysiology & pharmacology.

HUMAN PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY Assessment 2: Trimester 1, 2018 Weighting: 30% Task aim/purpose: The aim of this case-based assignment is to allow you to demonstrate your clinical reasoning skills, your capacity to differentiate normal from abnormal presentation and to identify appropriate (evidence-based) investigations and treatment modalities associated with the assigned case-study, which are skills that are crucial to safe and effective nursing practice. Individual, Written Assignment, concept map Total Marks: 100 Task description: • For this task you need to create a single (1) slide (using PowerPoint) colour coded concept map and 750 word explanation, demonstrating analysis of the case study scenario emailed to you in week 1. A PowerPoint template file will be made available for you to customise based on your assigned case scenario. In your concept map you must: 1) Interpret the patient’s risk factors (from the case-study scenario) and determine how these risk factors relate to the diagnosed disease/disorder; 2) Outline the links between the aetiology (cause), cellular pathology and the pathophysiology of the diagnosed disease; 3) Describe how the pathophysiology of the disease/disorder accounts for the patient’s clinical manifestations (signs & symptoms) (described in the case-study scenario); and 4) Analyse (examine) and interpret evidence-based research to suggest appropriate diagnostic assessments and treatment modalities for the patient’s diagnosis. In your 750 word written explanation you must: 1) Explain the links between the patient’s risk factors and aetiology to account for the disease’s/disorder’s pathophysiology. 2) Describe how the disease’s/disorder’s pathophysiology manifests through the patient’s signs and symptoms. 3) Justify your suggested diagnostic tests and treatment modalities listed in the concept map on their relevance and appropriateness for the diagnosed disease/disorder. Other elements: • The concept map (colour coded) should be a maximum of 1 PowerPoint slide in length and the 750 words written explanation (excluding reference list) should follow on the next slide/s; • You will be presented with a case study scenario electronically (via email) by Friday 2nd March (week 1); • Use APA 6th edition for in-text referencing and in the reference list; • Reference list should be on a separate slide/s following the 750 word written explanation; • Ensure that the majority of your references have been published within the last 10 years; • Marking, moderation, and student feedback will be provided electronically based on a marking criteria that is in accordance with University assessment policy; • 5% late penalties apply for each working day after submission date/time; • Always refer to the marking criteria as this will assist you to determine the depth of response for each section; • No coversheet is required; instead complete the eAssignment Cover Sheet Quiz before submitting your assignment. CASE STUDY SCENARIO: You are a nurse working in a GP clinic in Mullumbimby (NSW), where Ethan an 18-month-year-old boy presents with his mother suffering a high fever (>39ºC) that has lasted for over 24 hours. His mother states that Ethan has also had two seizures over the last couple of hours and worsening irritability. On examination, Ethan vomits and exhibits (shows) a positive resistance (struggle) to passive neck flexion, and his BP is 185/110. Upon questioning, Ethan’s mum admits that she has not vaccinated Ethan since his birth. Suspecting meningitis, the GP recommends that Ethan is taken immediately to Lismore Emergency Department. After arriving to hospital, Ethan is diagnosed (identify the nature) with bacterial meningitis (Meningitis (infection of the tissue covering of the brain and spinal cord)), due to Haemophilus influenzae. PowerPoint Presentation Please keep it colour coded But you can change the colours Keep the font this size (10) 1 powerpoint slide only for the concept map Pathophysiology Risk Factors Aetiology Clinical manifestations Diagnostic tests Treatment Grant is coloured blind though Easier for the marker ;-) Use APA 6th edition Use current resources You can change the font style though Evidence based Use in-text referencing Andrew likes Calibri 750 words for the explanation Referencing list last page Assignment is due 16th April by 5pm Submit through turn-it-in Lose valuable marks Separate page Easier for the marker Check the rubric for more information 5% late penalties apply for each day after the submission date Otherwise you wont fit everything in Check the rubric for more information No fewer than 10 Good luck Ensure it has a logical structure Key Keep the font size at 12 750 word written explanation. Start writing Reference list Reference list does not count towards your 750 words But your in text citations do!

HUMAN PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY
No vaccination since birth
Conscientious objectors to vaccination
Ignorance and lack of reliable sources of information
Attitudes of the
parents against vaccination
Lack of immunization leading to making the children vulnerable to infections
Inflammation of the meninges of the brain (due to bacterial meningitis)
Complex activity of the virulence factor of pathogens upon host immune system
Cytokines affecting the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
High fever over the past 24 hours
(Body temperature of Ethan was higher than 39oC in the past 24 hours)
Seizures
(Ethan had two seizures within the last 2hours)
Vomiting (Ethan had vomited, as reported to the GP)
Passive neck flexion
(Ethan had difficulty in passive neck flexion)
High blood pressure (Ethan’s blood pressure was 185/110)
Increased irritability
(Ethan also exhibited it.)
Passive neck flexion test = checks if the child has developed a stiff neck—a key symptom of paediatric bacterial meningitis
Imaging of the brain = CT-scan or MRI to receive clear picture of inflammation or swollen area in meninges
Blood tests = Gram’s staining to identify the type of bacteria infecting the meninges
Lumbar puncture = to collect CSF, for bacterial sample to affirm bacterial meningitis
Treatment using Intravenous antibiotics can reduce seizures and swelling of meninges. Hence, Ethan should be admitted to the emergency department immediately.
Haemophilus influenzae
1) Risk Factors and Aetiology of Ethan linked to his Pathophysiology of Bacterial Meningitis
Ethan is an 18-month old child, who lives in Mullumbimby in New South Wales (NSW). He has been suffering from bacterial meningitis, which is why he has shown all the symptoms that are in accordance with this disease. The key risk factor that has led to the causation of this disease in him is the fact that his mother has not subjected him to vaccination after his birth and so far. This behaviour of his mother can be attributed to the issue of their resident town being against the act of vaccination. According to the report by ABC News (2013), in 2013, only 46-49% of children were vaccinated because the people of the town believed that vaccination has a number of negative impacts and risks. Ignorance and lack of reliable sources of information aggravated the fear amongst the parents, who did not vaccinate their children in Mullumbimby.
As supported by Clarke, Giubilini & Walker (2017), the attitudes of the parents that were against the act of vaccination was also a consequence of conscientious objectors, as they believed they had the right to choose their freedom and needs. Besides,...
