Introduction
Self-reflection can be considered as one of the most effective tool in order to recognise the strength and weaknesses, flaws and new experiences from the instance that have already
happened in past. It helps to understand the learning and enables to extract the best possible outcomes from them. Along with this, it also helps to gain new insights towards change in behaviour, new action and perspectives. Reflective thinking cannot be categorised as wrong or right instead, it is simply the feeling or emotions associated with any event or incident. Current essay is based upon the activities and events that have been performed by me in the class within this trimester. Further, in the reflective thinking based upon the journal that I made, which consisted of all the activities we performed during this trimester along with my plans and objectives.
Activities and Events Performed
This trimester began with the understanding of Porter value chain and its importance within an organisation and its activities. The analysis of Porter value chain for Apple Inc. helped me to realise and recognise that value chain is an essential concept, which includes a collection of activities performed by organisations and companies. Further, I learnt that this could help the company in order to create value for its customers; value creation can further adds value to the company and products, which can allow the company to gain competitive advantage over its competitors.
With the passage of time with learnt the art of timeline management, which is another major concept in business. This is majorly because it is necessary to deliver projects within time in order to stick to the schedule. Further, I learnt how time and timeline management have evolved within past 3 centuries and how a better hold over this concept can help me to achieve the success I desire.
Further, within the month of June only I leant about Ackoff’s pyramid, which is also known as, DIKW pyramid, wisdom hierarchy, knowledge hierarchy or data pyramid. This helped me to realise the interconnected concepts and relationship between data, information, knowledge and wisdom. Further, I learnt that knowledge is the concept that is being defined in terms of data, wisdom and information, which is another major aspect to be considered in order to achieve success.
Where June ended with the learning of management, July began with the distinction between knowledge. Tacit and Explicit knowledge are the two different types of knowledge that exists, which according to me can also be considered as knowledge gained from experience and academic knowledge respectively. This helped to identify that where tacit knowledge can be gained via experiences and jobs, explicit knowledge requires study from books and there is requirement of perfect balance between both in management world.
Another major learning of this month included mapping information systems (MIS). These information systems are very effective and beneficial for business in terms of decision-making, project management, data resourcing and much more. Further, it helped to realise that effective application of these systems could be highly beneficial for business just as they were for hairdresser business. Meanwhile, the learning I took form here helped me to understand the concept of customer relationship management, which we leant through one of most popular brands ‘ZARA’. The interaction with the executives at the store helped me to realise that building a strong relationship with the consumer is the key towards successful business and this is the major concept that has allowed ZARA to reach heights of business.
Innovation and innovative technology is the key that drives the market towards success and I learnt this when we visited the Tesla roof tiles, which have the potential to replace ordinary tiles. Not only they are a substitute to ordinary used roof tiles but also they have inbuilt solar panels, which can further help to generate electricity. Innovation like this has a strong potential to change the market and environment.
Another major entity that has the potential to change the business and existing markets is qualitative decision making. This concept has allowed me to understand that the concept of decision-making is not limited to any specific department instead it is required and is applied to almost every department in an organisation. Further, it also allowed me to understand how to assign and plan things when resources are scarce in order to reach success.
August bought a new concept with learning and it allowed me to visualise things, actions and decisions differently. Reflective writing is something that can help to visualise and improve the decision-making and can further allow us to recognize the flaws and weaknesses from our experiences. This has allowed me to discover my strengths and along with this, it has helped me to feel and reflect my emotions regarding past activities and learning.
Last exercise or activity that we performed within this trimester was to identify the types...
