How Does building design influence occupant behaviour towards or away from sustainable habits? What design features encourage or discourage occupants’resource use? people(student staff) perception/understanding/awareness of energy consumption in the university building. The current study adopts a systematic methodology, that is, grounded theory that will involve the construction of theory through network analysis. The study will pursue a mixed approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse the data collected. Qualitative method will be pursued by circulating open-ended questionnaires among eight facility managers, which would be analysed by thematic content analysis. The research also adopts a quantitative approach by employing a close-ended questionnaire incorporating the Likert scale, assessing the views of 500 staff members and 1500 students. The data formulated would be analysed using the SPSS Software. Thus, this study will help us to understand the consumption and preservation of the energy as initiated by the occupants corresponding with sustainable designs of the buildings. It will also shed light on the strategies used by the occupants to cause minimal wastage of energy. Recommendations made for further research.
