ASSIGNMENT 4: CRITICAL REVIEW OF AN EMERGING ETHICAL AI
FRAMEWORK
Executive Summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) being a non-negotiable necessity in today's world have found its application in almost every sector. However, the ethical issues surrounding the use of AI in human application are emerging and they are one of the major factors behind consumers lack of trust. AI ethical frameworks could be considered as an effective tool to maintain the trust of consumers and sim
ultaneously fostering the use of AI. This report focuses upon the AI ethics framework by 'The Linux Foundations'. Efforts would be made to present the ethical stance, context as well as the stakeholders involved. Further, this report will conclude with the strengths and limitations of this framework.

Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) has always been fascinating concept for both developers as well as users. One of the major directives behind this fascination is linked with the possibilities as well as opportunities, which are yet to be deciphered. Moreover, the concept of AI is also popular because ethics and ethical issues have always surrounded it. Technology ethicists have been around for many decades and mostly in non-profits as well as academia.
In response to the emerging inculcation of AI in almost every sector, ethicist has developed dozens of ethical tools. These tools or frameworks have been considered as essential aspect to be considered in company’s culture or even during product development cycle. ‘The Linux Foundation Project’ is a well-known organisation preferred by companies as well as organisations all around the globe (The Linux Foundation Projects, 2020). Linux foundation focuses upon helping other AI companies to build ecosystem, which could help to accelerate industry adoption and open technology development (The Linux Foundation Projects, 2020).
Ethics in AI and big data values and principles is a popular framework developed by the company. This report will discuss the content as well as context of this framework. Likewise, efforts would be made to provide a discussion related to ethical stance and governance of the framework. This report would conclude with potential strengths and areas of improvement in the framework.
Content, Context and Stakeholders Associated with the Ethical AI Framework
It would be essential to consider that after 60 years of significant development in AI, it has emerged as a preeminent issue towards business, science, health, public affairs and much more. AI requires algorithms in order to help pilot weapons, cars and to perform many other dangerous as well as tedious work including product recommendations, decision-making, medicines and much more (Dignum, 2018).
Further, with the widening acceptability of AI, it seemed highly fashionable to accept that technology should shape the society and social norms instead of being shaped by them. However, this concept or orthodoxy has been strongly undermined in response to ever-expanding catalog including ethically fraught issues dealing or involving technology. Model frameworks or ethical frameworks help to translate ethical principles into suitable and practical measures, which can then be implemented by organisations, which deploy AI solutions at specific scale.
Ethical frameworks or these model frameworks could also be considered as an effort to promote AI adoption while building consumer trust as well as confidence in providing their confidential and personal data for AI development. Winfield and Jirotka (2018) mentioned that many concerns related to AI-enabled technologies have been already been publicised. This is evident from the rumours as well as fear among users related to disinformation, societal biases, data breaching and much more.
A large number of AI frameworks have been developed and appeared in recent years such as the Swiss university ETH Zurich and many more companies, organisations, agencies and universities have developed AI ethics framework to build consumer trust. The Linux foundation considers AI as reality and big data as its fuel. Both of the prior presented concepts complement each other with respect to the development of AI. Further, the ethical framework presented by Linux foundations considers that humans and machines are expected to merge (The Linux Foundation Projects, 2020).
Therefore, creation of ethical business framework is essential in order to direct safer and wider adoption of AI by organisations as well as customers. ‘Data Values and Principles’ presented by Linux foundation together describe the most ethical as well as effective and modern approach towards the development of data teamwork (The Linux Foundation Projects, 2020). There are three major or core principles to be followed by leaders while planning or preparing AI’s ethical framework and this include ‘impact’, ‘justice’ as well as ‘autonomy’.
`Impact of the developed AI must adhere to ethics of beneficence and non-maleficence. AI should be able to reflect procedural fairness along with distributive fairness, which is covered under the principle of justice. Further, AI should also be able to advocate for comprehension as well as control that is,...
