what information or scores you found to be surprising and/or challenging.

Evaluation is to determine the significance, worth, or condition of the value. (Merriam-Webster, 2015) In order to have accurate results, you would have to use an appropriate scale. The appropriateness will depend on the type of evaluation you need. In the evaluation used in this assignment, we used the Program Administration Scale (Measuring Early Childhood Leadership and Management). We evaluated the program of the Early Child Care Center at Concordia University Chicago. After asking the questions on the scale, I realized that we would not be able to evaluatethe wholeprogram from only one visit. More visits are needed as we only see one dimension of the program, however multiple visits will help the evaluator to gather needed information for the evaluation.Iwasable torecord the conversation and ask the all guiding questionsfor the four subscalesI chooseintheprogram administration scalethat helped in completing the bigger picture of the program. We found more information about risk managementplan itsworkon with the university and there is an employthat isdesignatedfor riskmanagement at the entire university and we worked with that individual on our risk management plan, sothat helped in understanding how the center will act if there was a fire forexample.Also,thechildrenarescreened for thepurpose of identifying possible special needs,by using ASQ system can parch it online the parent are involved too. Parent have to fill out first then the teachersfillsit out and that program compares what the parent and the teachers says,then identifying what the screeners are need, then the teacher meet with the parents to discuss the result. After all parent have to contact the public school in the area and see what services they can bring in for the child.

Through the evaluation, I faced some challenges. One of the challenges is asking the questions. Asking questions in different ways needs practice, and some background about theprogram you are evaluating. Moreover,during the class discussion I found thatadditional information about other programs would be useful as you would be able to ask more detailed questions about practices. Another challenge was the time. Some questions might take more time than the others, that’s why the evaluator needs to be punctual. Thus, the evaluator needs to direct the conversation as the person being evaluated might go into unneeded details. One of the criteria that stood out isthe center encourage the staff development, but they do not provide the teacher with the payment if they go off- site,I found out this is surprising becausethat totally different from my country

• how you plan to use what you’ve learned from the rating scales in your own practice;

One of my goals is to have my own child care center. I believe that using this type of scale would help me in creating a powerful program that would fulfill the needs of the center, the children attending, and their parents. Moreover, this evaluation scale would be like a guideline to be followed. Although it is my first time evaluating a program, I found out that it is not that hard. Yes, it will take time to meet all the standards, yet it is doable.

• what next steps you would take if you were actually the head of your early childhood center to improve your rating score. Be specific

If I wear the head of a childcare center, I would put into consideration the facility management improvement. For example, I would add more space for teachers. A relaxation room would help them a lot if they need to refresh their minds. It will help them to get back to work easily with motivation. I would also choose my team carefully as they are the people that I will be depending on. I would like for us all to act like one family putting the benefit of children in the first place. It is not easy to be aleader;however,you have to work hard to gain the trust ofyour employee. Listen to their concern and help them through it would make them feel that the centerdocare about all the members working in it.
