Contemporary Health Issue Annotated Bibliography2 Physical Activity Melissa Chau California Baptist University KIN302: Contemporary Health Issue Dr. Dominick L. Sturz September 19, 2020 Annotated Bibliography Beyer, K.M.M, Szabo, A., Hoormann, K., & Stolley, M. (2018). Time spent outdoors, activity levels, and chronic disease among American adults., Journal of Behavioral Medicine, 41(1), 494-503., https://doi-org.libproxy.calbaptist.edu/10.1007/s10865-018-9911-1 In this article, it also shows researched evidence leaning towards lower risk in chronic diseases through physical activities. This article focuses more on patients who spends more time outdoor in participating in moderate-vigorous activities correlates with lower risks in chronic diseases. I think that this is a good article to use in my critical assignment, because it focuses towards working adults who might have a harder time to find balance in their busy life. Most of these chronic diseases starts from the lack of consistency or knowledge. While there are factors of being outdoors that would associate with other chronic condition, the article will identify where the trigger might be and find the proper recommended balance. CDC (2020). Physical Activity Prevents Chronic Disease. https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/resources/infographic/physical-activity.htm This infographic might be short, however, I think that this will give me a guide for my essay to add in a paragraph regarding what is physical activity and what are the guidelines in physical activities that a person in an age range is recommended to participate. With the information given here, I would be able to follow up with the textbook for more in-depth information. This article also lists out the different types of chronic disease that I could focus on in my critical assignment. CDC provides information about on tips to help become more physically active and considerations. This would help ensure everyone will understand. Emile, M., Chalabaev, A., Stephan, T., Corrion, K., & d’Arripe-Longuevile, F. (2014). Aging stereotypes and active lifestyle: Personal correlates of stereotype internalization and relationships with level of physical activity among older adults., Psychology of Sport & Exercise, 15(2), 198-204. https://doi-org.libproxy.calbaptist.edu/10.1016/j.psychsport.2013.11.002 This article focuses on the physical activity stereotypes in older adults opening a space to explore their experiences. This would be a good source for my critical assignment because this article shares their experiences on physical activities and how they see the benefits. There are many kinds of stereotypes that people identify when they see or hear people talk about elders and their idea of physical activities, however, some people would not know the benefits of them. With the evidence that they author shares, it would give people a better idea and see the benefits that will help their future. This would help support my critical assignment by the ideas that people would thinks and say, while I could have evidence to counterargue those stereotypes and assumptions. Reiner, M., Niermann, C., Jekauc, D., el al (2013). Long-term health benefits of physical activity – a systematic review of longitudinal students. BMC Public Health, 13, 813. https://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2458-13-813 In this article, the authors focus on discussing treatment on noncommunicable diseases (NCD), for example, coronary heart disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus. One of the preventable ways to help reduce the risk would be being physically active. The authors use data to compare the role and benefit that physical activity plays in delaying the disease. The data that they target are participants ages 18-85. A few topics that the authors also compare are the results between weight gain and obesity, coronary heart disease (CHD), type 2 diabetes mellitus, and Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. This would help support my critical assignment by discussing the different types of other disease that being physically active can help delay more chronic diseases. Tak, E., Kuiper, R., Chorus, A., & Hopman-Rock, M. (2013). Prevention of onset and progression of basic ADL disability by physical activity in community dwelling older adults: A meta-analysis. Ageing Research Reviews, 12(1), 329-338. https://doi-org.libproxy.calbaptist.edu/10.1016/j.arr.2012.10.001 One of the topics that I want to discuss in activity in daily living (ADL) disability. This could be of any age, any circumstances, or time in someone’s life. In my critical assignment, I would briefly talk about what ADL disability is and where it started from. From there, I would discussion how physical activity is one important factor in helping prevent and delay ADL disability. Two factors that trigger ADL disability is from age and chronic diseases. In this article, the authors also provide different comparison between patients and their types of physical activities and the level of their physically activeness and in which countries. This would help me support my topic on the different types of physical activities that people do in their middle age to help them modify their lifestyle to help delay ADL disability.
