Introduction
Considering the pressure of regulatory authorities that make business organisations maintain ethical standards as well as the conflict of interest between the abidance and non-abidance of ethics for business success lead to drastic differences in promised and exercised ethical practices. This makes assessment of perceived and practices ethical values important. In the current essay the ethical standards of Starbucks along with Marks and Spencer has been assessed critically, to identify their degree of ethical promise and actual abidance. Both the companies promote equality at workplace, social justice and high quality of product in offering, although face ethical issues for their actions. In the current essay the actions of the chosen business organisations adapted for business success will be evaluated in the context of the argument, whether ethical actions are worth abiding or not. In the current essay arguments for and against the action executed by both the companies will be discussed and based on that a probable conclusion will be given.
Critical Analysis of Starbuck’s Action for Integrity and Business Success
Starbucks is one of the most premium coffee shops in UK. However, despite its hefty pricing, it charges for the quality and high reputation of brand name, it has failed to retain its ethical ranking in the global parameters. The failure of Starbuck’s ethical abidance is not impacting the business of the company in regular terms, however, considering the premium branding and low reputation, is making customers question its premium pricing and reason for preference over market rivals, which is undermining the business in the long-term.
Starbucks in its mission statement encourages cultural harmony, suggests social equality in terms of status quo alignment, being respectful to its employees and customers, and acting responsibility for a sustainable future, in which issues resolving is the responsibility of the company itself. Starbucks, in its commitment to quality and diversity, has promised to keep the standards of its products on equal standards as well as use the high price for social development of poor coffee farmers in certain parts of the world (Starbucks, 2019).
Despite the loftily claims by Starbucks, the company has retained most of its standards only in UK, while in case of USA, the company is seen to delay the ban of the genetically modified cows, which were the main source of milk in the company. Considering the frequency of the issues and their mitigation response from Starbucks it can be concluded that Starbucks is trying to improve and needs some time.
