Introduction
Social justice is all about ensuring that each and every Australian either indigenous or non-indigenous must be offered with the choices to live along with the means to make choices. As per Richard Frankland who is an aboriginal director, the living discrimination among very dark skinned aboriginal and the ones with the lighter skin is a well and alive issue. There are several discriminations in society in life time whether be in context of ethnic background, skin color, sexual or religion preference (Baird, Melissa, 2014). One social justice issue identified in this essay is discrimination towards the ATSI (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) people as they are one of mostly discriminated Australian community groups. Further this paper discusses about the way social workers engages in activism to respond to this issue followed by the intersections of human rights, social justice as well as activism (Bennett & Zubrzycki, 2003).

This discrimination continued leading to several major historical events like 1910 to 1970, stolen generation where between this time, as a part of assimilation policy, indigenous children were removed from their families with force based on the idea of white superiority and black inferiority proposing that indigenous people must die out via natural elimination so that a white people country could be created. These separated children were forcefully taught the taking, learning, and ways of living of white people along with being forced to adopt white culture while rejecting the indigenous one. This discrimination exists even today in the society. In fact, almost half indigenous Australian that is around 42 percent is still given unfair government advantages.
Reconciliation is based on the non indigenous as well as indigenous Australians reaching a core understanding being honest about the shared history, recognition of distinctive rights of indigenous as well as a commitment to build cooperative partnership with the basis of respect and the trust. The process of reconciliation started in year 1991 when the council for aboriginal reconciliation was established. After 10 years of establishment, this council presented a roadmap to reconciliation to the federal government as well as a final report to parliament containing a comprehensive set of symbolic as well as practical steps taken. For reconciliation, the support from community remained high and the support from federal government for the practical reconciliation with the core focus on overcoming disadvantage of being indigenous left many important questions regarding rights of indigenous Australians being unanswered. Thus, in order to keep moving forward the process of reconciliation, several groups including the social justice commissioner are working in unison to set benchmarks for performance for monitoring the government’s responses to the council for aboriginal reconciliation’s recommendations. A progress report of reconciliation is also included in annual social justice report by the commissioner.
