• What was your reaction to the VICE segment on double eyelid surgery? What standards or expectations for beauty did you grow up with? How do those understandings of what is beautiful or attractive relate to the larger culture you are a part of? How do they compare to the beauty standards expressed in the video? Is there anything about yourself you wish you could change? Explain your reasoning, and how it relates to culture and identity.


• Find a news article that relates to the issue of ethics and culture (ex. Kenyan “beading”, CSUF being asked to not bring women debaters to a debate in Japan because it could’ve resulted in a face loss for the men Japanese debaters) and examine your ethical issue using the 10 questions to mindfully consider in ethical decision making (included toward the end of UIC Chapter 12).
