In the story of “Desiree’s Baby,” discuss what the main character learned about him/herself or his/her world, or humanity in general. The essay must be double-spaced and 2-3 pages in length. The thesis should identify what the main character has learned. Also, support the thesis with the evidence from the text and include the effects that this knowledge has on the main character. Use one research source for this essay, found in the Literature Resource Center, located in the college’s online database. The essay needs to incorporate at least one quote from this source, properly documented according to MLA format. Use specific evidence/quotes from the story to back up the thesis. Note the page number for quotes in parenthesis and at the end of a quote. After that, find one article that you will quote from for essay 1. Make bibliographic information along with two quotes that you could use in the essay.

Choose a logical organization for the paper. Make sure the topic sentences relate/develop towards the thesis.

∙ Don’t retell the story. Use summary details only to help explain the points made.

∙ Try to come up with an interesting introduction that grabs the readers’ attention.

∙ Make sure to provide smooth transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

∙ Try to vary your sentence length and style.

∙ Do not write "I am going to write about..." or "I think." Avoid "I" anywhere in the essay.

Keep verbs in present tense.

To find a research article, go to the PGCC home page, click "library" at the bottom of the page, then "Research Data Bases," then "Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy," then "Gale Literary Sources," then type in either the name of the story or the author's name. You should then see a list of articles under "Literature Criticism." Choose one of these articles for your research source.

She falls in love with Aubigny and eventually marries him only to be abandoned at the end due to doubts of her racial origins.
The focus of the story is Desiree as we see her life unfolding and unexpected things happening at a quick pace in this short piece of writing. Desiree, was raised by foster parents, but was very much loved and grows up to be “beautiful and gentle, affectionate and sincere,--the idol of Valmonde” (Chopin 1). She knows little about the complications of the world and that love no matter how sincere is not unsubject to material circumstances.
Everything goes well until Desiree has a baby. The baby becomes the object of her extreme affection. The family is very happy. She is described to be in an utterly beautiful circumstance.
