Comparative analysis of the relationship between transport and tourism.


Task Description :


This is an individual assignment and requires each student to write an individual report based around a case study that demonstrates the relationship between transport and tourism through an in-depth comparative analysis of the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour in Melbourne with Captain Cook Hop-on Hop-off ferry service in Sydney. The analysis and evaluation should consider the following elements:


a) A detailed comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of both products, service offered and the overall experiences from the tourist’s viewpoint.


b) b) An evaluation of how both products are currently integrated into transport and tourism systems.


c) c) Recommendations to improve the existing products, service levels and the overall visitor experience


d) d) Evidence of the application of relevant tourism and transport management theories and concepts to the case study, drawing on appropriate supporting examples, and discussing any implications and issues arising


The report should include the following:


• A Title Page with your name and student number, the subject code and title, the name of the lecturer/tutor, and the title of the assessment;


• An Executive Summary which includes the main findings and recommendations of the report;


• A Table of Contents with section numbers, section titles/headings and page numbers;


• A brief Introduction that provides an overview of the bus and ferry services


• The Main Body of the report in sections, which should include the following elements:


o A detailed comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of both products, services offered and the overall experiences from the tourist’s viewpoint.


o An evaluation of how both products are currently integrated into Melbourne’s and Sydney’s transport and tourism systems, linked to tourism and transport management theories and concepts.


• A Conclusion, which summarises the key findings and briefly discusses any recommendations and implications arising from the analysis;


• A Reference List and in-text referencing in APA Referencing Style with a minimum of four (4) academic journal articles, texts (e.g. the prescribed text), government sources and relevant media sources (e.g. newspaper articles, trade publications) to support your discussion; and


• Any relevant Appendices (e.g. maps, illustrations, statistics).



The report should be based on research evidence rather than opinion. Use relevant examples to strengthen your analysis and to support your arguments.


Criteria used to grade this task:


1. Provide a detailed comparison of the strengths and the weaknesses of various transport products, service levels and the experiences associated with them;


2. Analyse the transport and tourism systems of a location and how transport products are integrated;


3. Provide recommendations to improve the existing products, service levels and the overall visitor experience and to better integrate them into transport and tourism systems.


4. Apply the relevant tourism and transport management theories and concepts to the case study, drawing on appropriate supporting examples, and discussing any implications and issues arising.


5. Present your ideas and findings in writing using APA referencing style.

The report should be typed on A4 pages, double-spaced, aerial 11 in Microsoft Word format and submitted online via the relevant Assessment Turnitin.

1.0 Introduction
We know the fact the countries are introducing different systems and measures for providing better facilities to the people in the country. Due to the effect of globalization and other recent trends, most of the developed countries are focusing on managing the issues in transportation. As per the report of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (2019), bus and ferry services in Australia directly influenced the life of the people. For achieving the objective of economic growth and development the countries have to introduce better infrastructural facilities and systems for attracting more investors and companies. Transportation systems in Australia influence the social and economic structure of the country. While analysing the transportation system in Australia from the year 1995 onwards we can able to understand that, the country mainly focused on three major systems; road, sea and air (Ogrizek 2019,p.12). From the year 2009 onwards the government authorities made significant changes to bus and ferry services for reducing the problems related to the transportation systems. As per the report of Business Insider (2019), Australian bus and ferry operations affected the life of the people in the country. We know the fact that people in the country are ready to accept new technology and system changes. According to the words of David (2019) the changes made by the country for achieving economic growth, influence the life of the common person and the entire society. The people in the country are more interested to travel in cars and they developed car culture, but the recent changes made by the government with the support of effective bus and ferry services helped the country for changing the attitude of the people effectively. As per the report of Road & Transportation Authority Australia (2019), there is an increasing trend in public transport usage (7.5% to 10.5%).
With the support of bus and ferry operations, the authorities effectively implemented an Integrated Public Transport Plan for managing the traffic and other related issues. In the research paper, we are analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour in Melbourne with Captain Cook Hop-on Hop-off ferry service in Sydney in a detailed way. We are also analyzing the relevant tourism and transport management theories and concepts.
