Assess how these demographic characteristics may affect housing availability and housing affordability for disadvantaged groups in your local government area. According the demographic charcteristics, a majority of people who living in Inala-Richlands are from Vietnamese background. Vietnamese people have a variety of certain needs or preferences when looking for a house. These may include: · Near facilities such as shopping centre, health services, transport and others · Living surrounding surburbs where other Vietnamese people live · General afforablitly for example food, housing cost · Health conditions · Prefer to own house, no sharing with others Among these people, they may have limited skills to looking employment opportunites such limited English speaking, technology, visa restrictions or no work experience. As well as, have no source of financial income as not Australian resident while have no job may rely on partner or family overseas for income and are forced to learn English. Therefore, there is diadvantage in finding accommodation to meet these people needs or preferences as there may no availability of house in particulary area due to overcrowd and such. 3. Examine the way in which economic factors - the current economic situation in your local government area (e.g. labour market workforce participation rates/ levels of unemployment) relate to, and affect homelessness and social housing and the subsequent impact on client needs. Using Covid19 as an example, it has affect many people to lost their job as well as businesses to close down. Therefore, leading to poverty people become unemployment claim for Jobseeker payment and other payments from Centrelink or seeking welfare assistance from community centres . Due to limitions of employments opportunities, financial income, unemployed or doing voluntary work and lack of skills. As well as, increase population of people staying in Australia, increase of economic prices such as food, electricity etc. It has affected in housing availability and affordability as people have specific needs for accommodation such as near facilitations of transport, health services or shopping centre and other needs. As people have limited income to rent privately as it is expensive and they need income for dailiy living and other expenses. However, availiabilty of affordable house may located in far locations or either it may suit to the person preference or needs. 4. Identify the community housing providers in your local government area and specify the nature of the housing need that they address (e.g. emergency/ crisis housing, transitional housing, long term housing) and the target groups. · Inala Youth Service Housing provides transitional, crisis or long term housing options for young people aged 16- 25 years (Inala Youth Service, 2020) · Inala Family Accommodation & Support Service provides temporary crisis housing for families with children under 16 years of age (Inala Family Accommodation & Support Service, 2020) 5. Do you consider that the supply of social housing in your local government area is adequate to meet the demand? Give reasons for your response. The supply of social housing in the Inala-Richlands government area does not meet the demand. As I have stated, that Vietnamese people have certain needs or perferances. This leads to some people homeless living in streets or car while others wait for a long time for vacancy in public housing and forces many people to rent privately which people cannot afford as it is costly or either they have move out due real estate or landlord sells the house and can no longer stay. 2. Assess how these demographic characteristics may affect housing availability and housing affordability for disadvantaged groups in your local government area.
According to the demographic characteristics, a majority of people are living in Inala-Richlands are from a Vietnamese background.
Vietnamese people have a variety of certain needs or preferences when looking for a house. These may include:
· Near facilities such as shopping centre, health services, transport and others
· Living surrounding suburbs where other Vietnamese people live
· General affordablitly for example food, housing cost
· Health conditions
· Prefer to own house, no sharing with others
Among these people, they may have limited skills to look at employment opportunities such as limited English speaking, technology, visa restrictions or no work experience. As well as, have no source of financial income as not Australian resident while having no job may rely on partner or family overseas for income and are forced to learn English.
Therefore, there is a disadvantage in finding accommodation to meet these people needs or preferences as there may no availability of house in a particular area due to overcrowding and such.
3. Examine the way in which economic factors - the current economic situation in your local government area (e.g. labour market workforce participation rates/ levels of unemployment) relate to, and affect homelessness and social housing and the subsequent impact on client needs.
The unemployment rate in the Inala-Richlands area of Queensland is estimated to be 12.9%, which is quite high, when compared to the overall population of the region. Due to the high rate of unemployment in the region, it is obviousthat the number of people, who are homeless in this local area is high. Since, a major fraction of the population is unable to earn their livelihoods, consequently homelessness is bound to prevail in the region. This has been giving a rise to the need of social housing, where people who are jobless and homeless can take shelter. The need for social housing in the region is increasing exponentially to accommodate people, who are not employed and do not have enough money for their survival.
According to ABC news article, almost 1 million Australians have lost their jobs since social-distancing measures to limit the spread of Covid19. Whilst before, coronavirus hit hard there were 713,000 people unemployment since March (ABC News, 2020)
Due to pandamic of Covid19, Federal Government have introduced providing Queenslanders subsidy of $130 billion to bid prevent people from losing their job to the...
