ME 572 Aerodynamic Design EGR360 Aerodynamic II- Final Project- Spring 2019 “Flow Simulation over an Airfoil Using COMSOL” (Presentation Monday 5/6/2019 10:00 am) Final report and simulation files to be emailed before presentation to [email protected] Consider air flowing over NACA 4412 airfoil (assigned in class). For constant flight speed of Re = 3 X106 Assume standard sea-level values for the free stream properties: Report your results in terms of performance plots such as lift and drag coefficients with the change of the angle of attack (AOA). And compare your solution to the experimental values for lift and drag coefficient. Also include lift to drag ratio (L/D) with the change of the angle of attack. In addition to the requirements above, the report should be comprehensive and includes details about the following: 1. The airfoil being used. 2. The physics being used (Turbulent Model), and the equations applied. 3. Boundary conditions and what they mean mathematically. 4. The mesh quality. 5. Mesh conversion analysis. 6. Plots of velocity and pressure. Comparing the case for low AOA and High AOA. 7. Determine the stall angle of attack (with evidence). Reminder: · The report discussion/conclusion must have more focus on the aerodynamics aspect of the project not the CFD software. · Students are encouraged to use COMSOL airfoil tutorial as a reference.
