In particular, the assignment focuses on the following project management knowledge areas in the PMBOK: project integration management, project scope management, project time management and project cost management. Your task is to develop a project case to incorporate “Cloud Computing” technologies for a local governments in Australia . There are many regional city councils in each state/territory. The development is for a state government that attracts domestic and international customers from all walks of life including adults, teenagers, children, and senior citizens, on a cost- recovery basis. The various business Information Systems are quite dated, coming with a number of legacy systems, and the efficiency of the systems in producing management reports and communication technologies are found to be lacking. The management board decided to incorporate “Cloud Computing” technologies to accommodate both local and remote customers through “Cloud Computing” technologies. The immediate task at hand is to develop a Project plan including financial modelling aspects, scope of the project, human resource requirements, scheduling tasks, and customer relationship system requirements. The management board would like to see an integrated, up-to-date “Cloud Computing” technologies being developed that can operate both for the local as well as remote potential customers but can also provide services to customers through the latest handheld wireless devices by utilizing the full potential of “Cloud Computing” technologies. The existing infrastructure has been updated with new core systems but requires additional enhancement to support wireless technologies through the Cloud Computing network. Your task is to develop a business professional report for the state Minister of local government. In the business report, you are expected to provide a complete business/project plan management document to provide an initial idea and scope as to the costs of the project. Your business/project plan management document submission should include the following as per the assignment requirements below. Note: there are two parts of this assignment. You will produce a single report, to be submitted on the due date. Written Report – (Part 1) (50 % marks) Due Dates: Refer to course website In the project plan you must at least do the following adequately: 1 Make necessary assumptions with justifications about the local governments in Australia and articulate to incorporate “Cloud Computing” technologies (one page maximum). 2 Provide, an outline with justification, the objectives/goals of adopting cloud computing technologies. (one page maximum). 3 Provide a summary of expanding your ICT unit to to incorporate “Cloud Computing” technologies (one page maximum). 4 Provide an initial estimated quality, cost & other resource structure with appropriate justifications (using project management software) to meet the organizational needs within the scope to incorporate “Cloud Computing” technologies (one page for cost structure; one page for resource structure; and one page for justification). 5 Develop a document with key project aspects such as milestones, slack time etc to indicate how long will it take to deploy “Cloud Computing” technologies. (two pages maximum) 6 Provide a complete project plan (PERT & GANTT Chart), with brief interpretations for non-technical board members (two pages maximum). 7 Provide a brief on the ethical consideration management need to be aware while incorporating cloud computing technology in the selected organization. (one page maximum). 8 Provide a brief on the importance of selecting the appropriate project team and other important aspect related to the team management for the successful integration of clout technology in the selected organization. (one page maximum). Written Report – (Part 2) (50% marks) In the written report, you must at least do the following adequately: 1 Provide a complete cost-benefit analysis, with brief interpretations for non- technical board members (one-page maximum). 2 Provide a set of recommendations as to how the project can be managed. This should discuss various aspects that are covered in the course textbook. You can choose appropriate aspects to suit your modeling techniques (one-page maximum). 3 Provide a set of recommendations as to how the project integration can be managed. (one-page maximum). 4 Provide an implementation plan detailing time, cost and resource schedules. This is a project management document and you must fully demonstrate your skills in presenting a project management plan (two pages maximum). 5 Provide a comprehensive post-implementation plan. The project shall be funded by Sydney city council and will be managed by a special purpose project management team. The development, installation and the integration of the cloud computing technology to the internal information system.
The Sydney city council is a government body with significant responsibility requiring highly effective and up to date technology to manage its various operations. In this context, information systems represent the backbone for undertaking the various operations and actions in any organization. The current information system employed by Sydney city council appears to be very dated and equipped with various legacy systems, the overall efficiency and functional abilities of this systems for producing reliable and timely management reports is lacking and advanced / suitable communication technologies seem to be deficient in the overall system. In this context, management board of Sydney city council has decided in incorporating cloud computing related technologies within its information system for the purposes of accommodating both the local as well as remote customers, that is, public it serves, by way of these various remote operating, secure channels and effective mediums that are enabled from cloud computing. Management board of Sydney city has decided in setting up integrated and up-to-date cloud computing technology-based system to be developed and integrated within its current IT and system infrastructure which could then operate with respect to both local and also the remotely placed potential customers and in addition offer services for the customers by way of latest, handheld and advanced wireless devices in suitably leveraging and applying full potential from the cloud computing technologies. At Sydney city council facility, prevailing IT infrastructure shall be suitably updated by newer core systems with additional set of enhancement for supporting wireless technologies by way of cloud computing networking.
