Explain, using scientic terms energy phenomena associated with the claim Task Purpose You have observed two experiments demonstrating the eectiveness of insulation using the wave and particle model to explain your results. You will then conduct research to determine the most eective insulation method to apply to the scenario below.  Task details Scenario: You are about to travel to grandma who lives a three-hour drive away. Your grandma wants you to bring your world-famous curry for the family lunch ready to be served as soon as you arrive. Requirements: 1. The curry must always stay above 60 degree C to follow safe food guidelines. However, your grandma loves her food hot and therefore you aim to keep it above 70oC. 2. You have the following materials available in your house, aluminum foil, bubble wrap, quilted food carrier, plastic bags and containers (take away, Décor, supermarket brands), casserole dish and a polystyrene box 3. You are not allowed to reheat your curry along the drive or on arrival at grandmas 4. You have to keep to the speed limit.    SCI_09_SA3_Surname_Firstname_2022_Research_Investigation.pdf Task Sheet of Curry in a Hurry and Declaration of ownership of work.  9/1/22, 9:19 AM 2 -SA3 - Research Question and Rationale - Draft due 15th August, Final Sept 11 - Stile https://stileapp.com/au/inst-1136/subject-344943/lesson-2429549/worksheet-20221740/print/87863682 3/10 The Claim / Scenerio ‘It is possible to keep food that is initially near 100oC above 60oC for a duration of 3 Hours using a collection of insulating materials commonly found in the home" --(Grandma 2022) .’ Question 1 Writing a Research Question. St ep Description Example Your Work 1 Break down the Task.   Identify the key terms of the claim.   Task Purpose:  You have observed two experiments demonstrating the eectiveness of insulation, using the wave and particle model to explain how the insulation works. You will then conduct research to determine the eectiveness of these and other  insulation materials found around the home  Key terms: eectiveness, wave and particle model, conduct, insulation   The task is to nd out what materials we nd at home is the most eective insulation for keeping the curry for my precious grandma hot between 60-70c. 9/1/22, 9:19 AM 2 -SA3 - Research Question and Rationale - Draft due 15th August, Final Sept 11 - Stile https://stileapp.com/au/inst-1136/subject-344943/lesson-2429549/worksheet-20221740/print/87863682 4/10 2 Question the key elements of the Task.   Generate questions that help clarify the key terms as they relate to the unit of study.   What is meant by the eectiveness of insulation? What is wave and particle models? What sort of research do I need to nd out the eectiveness of insulation? The eectiveness of insulation is where we try to decide what material limits heat transfer  the wave nature of light states that light can behave as an electromagnetic wave, whereas the particle nature of light states that light consists of particles called photons We need to conduct an experiment to nd out what insulation keeps the food at 60- 70c 9/1/22, 9:19 AM 2 -SA3 - Research Question and Rationale - Draft due 15th August, Final Sept 11 - Stile https://stileapp.com/au/inst-1136/subject-344943/lesson-2429549/worksheet-20221740/print/87863682 5/10 3 Pose possible research questions.   Extend the questions from step 2 to ask how the key terms could be linked.   Is aluminum foil  an eective insulation for keeping the curry at a safe temperature?  Is bubble wrap an eective insulation for keeping the curry at a safe temperature? Is quilted food containers an eective insulation for keeping the curry at a safe temperature? Is plastic bags and contain ers an eective insulation for keeping the curry at a safe temperature? Can a combination of insulators be more eective than the best insulator? Is aluminum foil an eective insulation for keeping the curry at a safe temperature? Is bubble wrap eective as a medium for this job? The air trapped in the dierent layers does reduce conduction and convection but radiation passes through. 5 Finalise the research question.   Use the results of the critique to select and nalise the research question.   Would using a (....insert method or combination ....) be an eective insulation for keeping curry  above .......  for ........?  Please note - do not use this example in your assignment.   Researching_and_Referencing_for_Assessment.pptx  9/1/22, 9:19 AM 2 -SA3 - Research Question and Rationale - Draft due 15th August, Final Sept 11 - Stile https://stileapp.com/au/inst-1136/subject-344943/lesson-2429549/worksheet-20221740/print/87863682 7/10 Question 2 Research Question What are you investigating?  Question 3 Aim: The aim of the research is to ...  Question 4 Hypothesis (Prediction):  What do you think the design of the container should look like based on your current understanding of heat transfer, insulation, emissivity and other concepts explored in class? Make sure discuss the following in the background: What is heat? How is heat transferred? Explain the three methods of heat transfer.  What are the dierent models used to explain how heat energy is transferred? How can heat loss be reduced/ minimised? What are the most eective insulation methods? Are some methods better than others? Make sure you compare insulation materials/methods.  Use data or graphs to support your ndings.    It is crucial that you include an in-text reference for every new piece of information in your research investigation response. 1. Research question
We all love to eat tasty food and since hot food has strong aroma and it stimulates our taste bud more intensely, we found it tastier and more delicious to eat.
Hence, we want to store our food in such a way that its hotness remains maintained until the servings. For this purpose, we use insulating containers made up of different materials. Insulating containers are made up of those materials that prevents the transmission of heat via conduction, convection and radiation through them and thus food items stayed tasty as maintained at a higher temperature for longer duration of time. Since, there are various insulating materials available like aluminium foil, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, quilted food carrier, polystyrene box etc. So, the aim of this research is to assess the insulation properties of these different materials to identify the most effective insulation material or a combination of different materials for keeping the food materials hot at a temperature of 60-70 ͦ C.
2. Objective of the investigation
The sole purpose of this investigation is conducted to found the most effective insulating container or insulating material to store the curry above 60-70 ͦ C for maintain its aroma and deliciousness.
3. Aim of the research
The aim of this research is to evaluate the insulation properties of different materials like aluminium foil, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, quilted food carrier and polystyrene box for storing the food above 60-70 ͦ C. Their heat transfer nature via convection, conduction and radiation will be assessed experimentally.
4. Our Hypothesis
Among the different insulating materials we have, we hypothesize that since polystyrene have small air bubbles trapped inside them, they don’t allow the flow of heat energy through them and thus are very good...
