Part 1 – Motion Diagrams

b) How do the two velocity components change as the projectile moves?
Horizontal component of velocity is constant but vertical component (downward) is increasing along the path of projectile till projectile touches the ground.
c) Explain the physical reason for your observation in part (b)?
Only force, acting on projectile after it fired, is gravity force. So, there is acceleration only in vertical downwards direction. Due to which vertically downward component of velocity is increasing. But in horizontal direction, there is not acceleration, so horizontal component of velocity is constant.
3. Reset the simulation. Choose “Total” and Velocity Vectors box. Fire the projectile and observe how the velocity vector changes as the projectile falls to the ground.

b) How do the magnitude and direction of the velocity vector change as the projectile moves?
Magnitude of the velocity vector is constant, but direction is changing along the path of projectile. Angle of velocity vector with horizontal is increasing in clockwise direction along the path of projectile.

Velocity vector is always tangential to the path of projectile.
