Question 2
General Medical Practitioner (GP)
With the increase in the reforms of government f
unding, structural changes and demographic shifts, the medical practices by the GP have been transforming in Australia. With the increase in Australia's population, there had been an increase in the chronic disease burden. As a result, there had been a growing need of GP for providing primary care to the health sector of $162 billion worth. Since 1971, the number of GPs was observed to be doubled, according to the reports of AUSSTATS (ABS, 2004). The public funding related to the medical services initially have been an issue since the medical services that were provided by the GPs for every patient have increased based on the Medicare scheme 1984. Since 30 years from 1971 to 2001, it has been observed that the number of medical practitioners has increased with the increase in the population.
The number increased from 122 to 248 based on 100,000 population. In 1981, the total number of general medical practitioners was only 181 per 100,000 population. Within five years, the number increased to 248. However, according to Scott (2020), the number of the medical profession was found to show restrained growth in between the year 1996 to 2001. There were several constraints that have been pointed out by the report AUSSTATS, which have resulted in a decrease in the growth of the number of GP. Although the medical graduates passed out were found to be stable.
However, it was observed that the due to the implementation of the changes in terms of accreditation and training, implementation of restrictions in terms of billing rights by Medicare a greater number of medical professionals were observed to immigrate. The further number of specialised trainees was found to increase. In the year 2001, the number of medical practitioners was found to be 48,200 (RACGP, 2018). On the other hand, there were 15,900 specialists, 2140 anaesthetists and 3270 surgeons. Most of the doctors were found to be at the median age of 43 years, one-quarter of the number of GPs were found to be less than 35 years while three quarters were of age less than 53 years. 43% of the Australian GPs were born overseas while 31 % of the doctors were born in Australia.
With the increase in the health expenditure in Australia, there had been an increase in the number of health professionals in between the year 2014 to 2015 with the number of GP was 2015 (Medical Board, 2015). This indicates the growing number of years and there will be an increase in the need of the GPs, who will play a critical role within the health sector. The trends, as well as the impacts, which were set by the GP, helped in maintaining the quality of the care provided by the medical professionals. As per the forecast of the Australian government, the year 2018 indicated that by 2025 there would be the demand for the surplus supply of GP workforce. In order to increase the number of GP, the government has implemented certain Medicare benefits with a revised fee structure. Further, there had been an introduction of an improved workforce-planning tool, which will involve in the analysis of the health demand and the required workforce.
Data Analyst
As the availability of the data and technology has increased, there had been a rise in the requirement of data analyst within the Australian economy. These data were utilised in diverse fields.
