Assessment Description To complete this assessment, you will need to select one firm. The firm can be a private or a public company based anywhere in the world. A good criterion for the choice of a firm is the availability of public information about its products and services, corporate background and market reputation. Be careful in selecting your firm as further analysis of your chosen firm will be carried out in Assessment 3. You should discuss your choice of firm with your lecturer. Do this early and consult with your lecturer about the firm if in doubt. You are required to select two (2) countries (Country A and Country B) as potential destinations for the firm to conduct its international business operations. You can choose, any two countries other than the country of origin of the firm. The firm must not have any existing operations in either of the countries you select. The purpose is to develop a report with recommendations to be presented to the Board of Directors of your chosen firm. 1. Conduct research into each country and produce a comparative analysis of the two countries. The headings below are an indication of the type of information you may need to be able to collect and use: a. The ease with which international firms report being able to do business in each country. You can find information about this from a range of sources including business news, official government websites or other online and offline sources. b. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Inflation Rate, Interest Rates c. Education levels and the labour force skills available d. Current interest rates e. Current value of the local currency against the United States (US) dollar f. Employment rate and average income per person per year 2. Use the following headings in developing your report. a. Introduction to your chosen firm and its background b. What are the commercial implications for your firm wishing to engage in an international business venture? c. Provide an overview of products or services that your firm is seeking to use to expand into the two new countries that you have selected (their entry strategies). d. What are the key factors/reasons that support the introduction of these new products/services and why do you think that their introduction will be successful. Introduction
International market analysis is a study of basically two factors one of it is calculating the existing market in the target country whereas other fac
tor deals with forecasting market expandability of the targeted country. International market analysis is much more difficult than domestic analysis because the former one has much more difficulty in diverse conditions of foreign markets and also unavailability of statistical data of the foreign markets which can be misleading and therefore can cause huge loss to the business. This essay focuses on a comparative study of different financial conditions of the two countries. which in this case United States of America and the other one is Malaysia. It describes different financial rates that are required to do business in these foreign markets, as well as human resources, ease of doing business are also focused in this essay. Second part of the essay deals with Alibaba’s background, commercial implications and key factors that will help their business to grow in these markets.
Comparative analysis of the two countries
A. Ease of doing business
The ease of doing business in these selected countries i.e. The United States and Malaysia is very much profitable. The United States ranks among the top 5 countries among other 190 other countries. According to international financial institutions the ease of business improved from 2018. On the other hand, Malaysia ranks among the top fifteen countries in the index of ease of doing business. Currently, it holds number 12 among 190 countries and it increased its rating from 2018 to 2019 with an average of 18 points (tradingeconomics.com, 2019).
B. GDP, inflation and interest rates.
According to Nisa and Saini, (2019) Gross domestic product in America is currently 21000 billion US dollars in the year 2018 and this value is around 34 percent of the total world economy. While GDP of Malaysia is around 400 billion US dollars which was recorded in 2018. This GDP value represents about 0.60 per cent of the total world economy. The inflation and interest rates of the United States is around is 1.9 percent calculated from month of October of 2019 while the inflation rate of Malaysia is about 0.98 percent. In case of interest rate is around 3 percent and interest rate of United States is around 2 percent.
C. Availability of labour and education levels
The availability of educated labour force in Malaysia is nearly 16000 recorded in the September month of 2019 and this value increased from the previous month. In case of United States, the labour force sums up to 65 percent of the total population. Education levels of Malaysia that includes getting jobs is around 79 percent. This education level includes technical training, college diplomas and bachelor degrees. Whereas in America, 90 percent of total population ranging from age 26 plus has a high school diploma and 46 percent of the total population of the same age group holds a Bachelor's degree.
