As per the BOD’s instructions you had to reduce overhead costs by 35% including employeesin month of April 2020 by salary cuts and retrenchments. You have statistics that performancehas decreased by 65%, and revenue reduced by 77% in the month of May 2020 due toCOVID-19.

Leadership Qualities of Healthcare CEO
There are many job roles and responsibilities that come under the responsibility of the CEO, working in the healthcare sector. The CEO of the hospital needs to strike a good balance between managing the departments and the daily operations and also take part in the board's initiatives and strategic plans. As discussed by Janke et al. (2019) that other roles and responsibilities of a CEO include overseeing the Human Resour
ce Department in their duties regarding hiring and retaining the staff, and also making sure the staffs have necessary education, credentials, and experience. To retain the qualified staff, the responsibility of the CEO is to create and model a positive culture and encourage productivity within the hospital.
The CEO must carry certain qualities to perform his/ her responsibilities in a very smarter manner to manage the operation of the entire hospital. Garcia-Sanchez and Garcia-Sanchez (2020) have discussed many qualities of a CEO, such as listening, vision, integrity, empathy and optimism. The first important task is listening, where the study shows that participative leadership is most productive on its own. This is because it allows the leaders to seek out the options of the team, while they still retain the authority of decision making. This will make the team feel that they are heard, appreciated, and engaged, and also, they must learn to respect the leader and also return with the same respect.
The second important responsibility of the CEO is to manage properly. In the healthcare industry, there is always the possibility of challenges and setbacks. As a good leader, the CEO must able to manage the challenges and also handle daily activities, while keeping the focus on the big vision for the betterment of the hospital. A successful leader must always be well prepared to handle the situation because an unprepared leader will fail. A leader must always do those activities, which are best for the patients, staff, hospital and the working towards keeping everything in the right order.
The third quality that a CEO must possess is maintaining integrity. The CEO must work always on what is good for the hospital and the patients, along with the staff. He/ she must not keep their personal choice over the rights and responsibilities of the hospital. The CEO must set a moral tone for all staff also to let them work in the right direction, by following what is ethical for the hospital, and under no circumstances those ethical principles should be violated. As a CEO of the hospital, the major responsibility is to never turn around from getting treatment, and everyone should be provided with equal treatment facilities to maintain the integrity of the hospital.
The fourth quality of a CEO is to be empathetic. Empathy is considered as the basic human quality, which is now missing from the workplace very often. In the hospital the empathy is shown towards the patients, however, the negligence is quite visible towards the co-workers of the hospital, who miss the empathetic nature of their seniors. Therefore, a CEO of the hospital must show empathy towards their workers, which works as a sense of respect. A CEO must always be with open ears to listen to the complaints or queries from their employees and try to put themselves in the position of the employees to understand their situation. This will help in building a strong relationship and keep valuable connections with the employees.
The fifth quality of the CEO is to be an optimist always. There will be worst situations faced by the hospital when a patient is in serious condition, and the physicians are working hard to get the patient back to life. There will be occasions when there will extreme pressure and workload on the physicians, medical and non-medical staff. In those tiring situations, it is the responsibility of the CEO to spread optimism to them, and encourage them to never lose hope in any situation, and always be ready to handle any kind of situation. The CEO can also arrange certain recreational activities inside the premises of the hospital to keep the staffs and physicians motivated.
Leadership Style of CEO in Construction and Consulting Company
Construction and consultancy business deals with building infrastructures that may be buildings, or many parks, bridges, or any type of construction process. The leaders play a very important role that is in the position of CEO of the company dealing with the construction or consultancy industry. As discussed by Lowstedt and Raisanen (2018) that a construction business deals with high risk and high investment jobs with the joint participation of several stakeholders. The job also requires completion on the scheduled time and also important to adhere to the expectations of the customers. Therefore, the leadership style of the CEO of a construction company is as follows:
The first leadership style of the CEO is that he/ she must be expertise in conflict management. McDermott et al. (2018) have discussed that conflict management is a leadership competency that fits both this category as well as the competencies for leading another category. There are various possibilities on daily basis regarding the occurrence of different types of conflicting situations, such as accidents, or delays in delivery of raw materials, or issues related to the government norms, which is the responsibility of the CEO to handle those situations in a playful manner.
The second key leadership style of the CEO is to be a competent decision-maker because it is considered to be the core of the leadership activities. A good leader must know that how to make decisions by themselves. However, before making any decisions, he/ she must consult with their immediate subordinates and all the relevant stakeholders related to the construction work before taking any decision. It is important to take opinions from everyone on matters because this will help the CEO to come down to a fixed decision-making process. Similarly, there will be occasions, when joint decision making is necessary, and it will be wise for the CEO to step back and allow all relevant stakeholders to take a joint decision.
In a construction business, there are a lot of employees to deal with, who are directly involved or indirectly involved with the work. Similarly, there are a lot of stakeholders associated with the construction work; therefore, the CEO must possess interpersonal skills to properly deal with these people. This included listening to the queries or any feedback from the people. There must be verbal and non-verbal communication regarding day-to-day activities or long-term activities. There must be participation from different employees and stakeholders, which is allowed by CEO to take a joint decision. Similarly, the leader must have problem-solving skills along with teamwork skills. With proper teamwork skills, the CEO will able to manage the work and accomplish the task within the given time frame.
The fourth quality of the leader is having emotional intelligence. It is the ability to understand other person's emotions and emotional situations. Emotional intelligence helps CEOs to analyse their skills. It helps in understanding their strengths and weaknesses by becoming self-aware about them. The CEO must be self-regulating, which means that the leader must know to manage the emotions they carry. The CEO who is high in emotional intelligence is also highly motivated. This helps the leader in motivating the employees in accomplishing the tasks within time. Having high emotional intelligence also helps the CEO to connect properly with others, which is also an important role needed to have in the leader.
The fifth skills of the CEO are to be a good coach and being trustworthy. A leader needs to be many different things to many different people, and one of them is being a good coach for the entire organization. A leader must know how to properly guide the workforce in the right direction, so that they could accomplish the construction work on time, without minimal wastage, so that the entire project must not exceed the allocated budget. The CEO must be capable enough to push the employees out of their comfort zone in a gentle manner, and that too giving useful feedback whenever necessary, and helping people identify their vision.
Difference between Leaders and Managers
There is always a buzz when there is a discussion regarding the leader and the manager. As discussed by Liphadzi et al. (2017) that leadership is a skill and the person who possesses this ability and practice is known as the leader. However, on the other hand, management is a discipline, and the person who practices this discipline is known as a manager. Both leader and manager have their roles to play within the organization. A leader inspires, encourages, and influences the team members to work with willingness, in the attainment of the organization's objectives. However, on the other hand, the manager is an important link between the organization and the stakeholders, such as employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, government agencies, society, and many more. They are the ones who are there to perform a basic managerial function in the organization.
There is a huge difference between a leader and a manager. As discussed by Connolly et al. (2019) that a leader carries the ownership mentality, whereas, a manager carries a job mentality. A leader always draws a picture of what they see is possible for them, and with that, they inspire and engage their people in converting that vision into reality. They always think beyond what other people see and also, they motivate and activate people in action mode to do something bigger. A leader always knows that accomplishing a task is always possible while working in a team; hence, it is always the prime target of a leader to form a team of such person who is result-oriented. However, on the other hand, a manager is focused on the settings, measuring, and achieving the goals, and they control the situation to achieve or exceed their objectives. As a GM of the company, my role is to see the long-term goal for the organization, which can be accomplished by making strategic plans and form directions for my organization to move ahead. A manager in my organization will follow the strategic plan and the direction given and he/ she will work based on that. A manager does not see any kind of long-term big goals; rather they are focused on the midterm and short-term goals which are already conveyed to them.
Leaders are the ones who are responsible to bring change to the organization, and they are known as proud disrupters. A leader will always work on change and a better way forward; however, a manager sticks what is already there and tries to just refine the same structure of the process. Leaders are always being willing to themselves, and are self-aware and they work actively to build their own unique and differentiated personal brand. They make things, which are followed by others. However, on the other hand, the manager copies the behaviour and competencies of others, and they copy or adapt their lifestyle, and nobody follows a manager. A leader is always a risk-taker because he/ she explore things that have not been done by anyone previously. They often fail miserably while trying something new; however, they never stop trying because failure is considered as the path towards success. The manager on the other never tries anything new, and rather they follow what has already been followed previously. They rather try to avoid any type of change in the organization. Hence, these are the significant difference between a leader and a manager, where a leader is a person always filled with responsibilities.
