Title: Comparison and contrast of different mental models of health
Topic 1: Biopsychosocial theory of mental disease like epilepsy
Introduction:
Biopsychosocial perspective:
The biopsychosocial theoretical perspective of mental illness was given by Dr. Engel. There are various factors discussed in this theory that can affect the mental perception, attitude and well-being of people suffering from several diseases. The breakup of the biopsychosocial perspective includes the biological, social and psychological perspectives that affect the mental well-being and the mindset of people facing traumatic situations and events in their life after transitioning through the different stages of growth and d
evelopment. The social factors include the rituals, customs, traditions, beliefs, family relationships, social status, financial conditions and the intensity of the traumatic events faced by people while living in a close community in a society. The biological factors affecting mental stability include the effects of genes, alcohol, smoking, and unhygienic habits which affects the growth and development of people in society. The psychological factors include the thinking, perceptions, psychological analysis, and behavior of people while facing specific traumatic events in their life leading to changing situations (Cardoso, 2013). There are more chances of the occurrence of psychological illnesses like depression, stress, and anxiety among patients who are suffering from epilepsy disease (Kwon and Park, 2014), (McAuley et al., 2015), (Tellez-Zenteno et al., 2007), (Gaitatzis, Trimble and Sander, 2004).
Content
1. The biopsychosocial model explains the incidences of mental illness.
2. The analysis of the behavior of people suffering from mental illness and depression problems.
3. The analysis of the amount of stress and trauma faced by people affecting their mental health.
Introduction:
Topic 1: Context:
The context of this problem includes a general questionnaire analysis of the mental well-being perspective of people suffering from epilepsy in a general hospital setting. The wrong happening in this situation is that many people in Saudi Arabia are suffering from a mental disease called epilepsy. Further this statistical analysis understands the tendency of the patients suffering from epilepsy to adhere to the prescribed dose of the medicines used for treating epilepsy. The main problem is that not all patients adhere to their dose of the prescribed medicines used for treating epilepsy and show negligent behavior while being treated in a hospital setting. A separate score was given to patients who adhered to the prescription dose therapy for treating epilepsy in contrast to the patients who did not adhere to the dose prescription format (Almwled et al., 2022).
The questionnaire asked included a list of the questions like whether the patients required the intervention of a psychologist and a doctor at regular intervals to explain the problem of mental anxiety and epilepsy in detail with the necessary treatment options. Many patients answered that they do not require the intervention of a psychologist. The generalized anxiety scale was used for checking the levels of mental anxiety from which the patients were suffering for many years (Almwled et al., 2022). A lower score on the generalized anxiety index indicated a lesser chance of the occurrence of anxiety and a higher score on the generalized anxiety index indicated a higher chance of the occurrence of anxiety symptoms (Almwled et al., 2022). Further, the history of the patients suffering from other mental diseases was checked with the necessary link to the adherence of taking the medical prescription dose for treating epilepsy on time (Almwled et al., 2022). This statistical analysis explains the tendency of patients to avoid the intake of epilepsy medicines due to their reluctant mental behavior.
Theoretical framework for Topic1:
The theoretical framework in this statistical study includes the use of different questionnaires for interpreting the incidences of generalized anxiety disorder, health questions study, cognitive impairment analysis and the relationship scores with the tendency to get attached or avoid specific relationships during the condition of epilepsy. Further another study includes the tendency of the patients to adhere to specific medicines for epilepsy with a comparison of the adherence rate among the different medicines given to the patients. The different medicines used in this study were valproic acid, carbamazepine, phenytoin, topiramate and phenobarbital. The analysis is significant as it helps us in forming a link between the tendency of patients to adhere or not adhere to a list of the medicines necessary to treat the epilepsy disease due to various factors like the previous history of the occurrence of some other disease, avoiding behavior and negligence (Almwled et al., 2022). A link was formed between the occurrence of the disease epilepsy and other psychiatric ailments and mental disturbances among the patients. The results indicate that the occurrence of mental diseases was more in the non-adherent group of patients in comparison to the adherent group of patients suffering from epilepsy. Further, there was not much difference in the values of the cognitive deficit and impairment scores among the adherent and the non-adherent groups in this statistical study. The avoidance relationship score values were much more in the adherent groups of patients taking medicines in comparison to the non-adherent group of patients (Almwled et al., 2022).
Social Model:
The social model includes various factors like religion, customs, personal community interaction, language, communication, and the tradition that a specific group of people follows. These social factors determine the mental state and condition of the people belonging to a specific community.
Medical Model:
The medical model in this context analyzes the study of depression symptoms in different patients by the prescription of medical drugs for the treatment of anxiety, stress, and trauma faced by them.
Link of topic 1 to social model:
There is a link between topic 1 with the social model as there was a study to decipher the link between the relationship among the patients and their tendency to intake or avoid the intake of the anti-epileptic medicines prescribed by a doctor or physician.
Link of topic 1 to medical model:
The medical model studies the psychological factors like cognitive ability, impairment, perception, anxiety, stress, and depression leading to serious mental ailments amongst the group of patients being studied in a hospital setting. The factors like cognitive impairment and anxiety were studied in this statistical study so there is a link between topic 1 and the medical model.
Merging of topic 1 to the two models described previously:
There is an overlap between the medical model and the social model as there is an interpretation of the cognitive...
