Assessments provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to achieve the required standard. To do this, assessment responses need to be both clear and easy to understand. If not, the University cannot determine that students have demonstrated their knowledge and skills. Assessments will, therefore, be marked according to the marking criteria (accompanied by the marking rubric). Failing to meet the requirements may result in 0 (zero) marks where relevant. Do not reproduce statements from PMBOK or PRINCE2 or any other references without proper context. Example 1: Leadership is knowledge, skills, and behavior required to guide, motivate and direct a team to achieve its business goals (copied from page 56 of PMBOK), as this is considered plagiarism, instead you must show how you would apply that statement to your case. Example 2: PMBOK version 6 constitutes 10 knowledge areas, 5 process groups and 49 process activities or PRINCE2 consists of 7 Principles, 7 Themes and 7 Processes. Produce your answers for the case in question. DO NOT write about the theory or explain what PMBOK, PRINCE2, DMAIC methodology, etc covers. That will not attract any marks. You should demonstrate the application of the best practices not the theory. Discuss with your lecturer / tutor if you need help. Word count limit (excluding references and appendix). Your submission should be made using a Microsoft WORD document of 2,500 - 3,000 words. Text length less than 2500 words will be penalised by 5% of the total available marks while text beyond the 3000 word limit will attract a penalty as follows: • 3001 - 3300 words: 5 marks • 3301 - 3600 words: 10 marks PPMP20009 Leading Lean Projects Term 3, 2019 Page 4 of 5 • more than 3601 words: 15 marks Late penalty. Late submissions will attract penalties at 5% for each calendar day or part thereof that it is late of the total available mark for the individual assessment item. This means that, for an assessment worth 40 marks, the mark that you earn is reduced by 2 marks each calendar day that the assessment is late (including part-days and weekends). See s4.58 in the Assessment Policy and Procedure (Higher Education Coursework). Check with marking criteria. Before submitting your assignment you should check it against the assessment criteria and the marking rubric included in this specification to ensure that you have satisfactorily addressed all the criteria that will be used to mark your assignment. Academic language. All submissions should be thoroughly proof-read for spelling, typographical or grammatical errors before being submitted. Do not reply on the ‘spell-check’ function in your word processing program. If, for example, ‘affect’ is substituted for ‘effect’, your program may not detect the error. Academic Integrity All assignments will be checked for plagiarism (material copied from other students and/or material copied from other sources) using TurnItIn (TII). If you are found to have plagiarised material or if you have used someone else’s words without appropriate referencing, you will be penalised for plagiarism which could result in 0 (zero) marks for the whole assignment. In some circumstances a more severe penalty may be imposed. The link to the University’s Academic Misconduct Procedures is available in the unit profile. Useful information about academic integrity (avoiding plagiarism) can be found at: CQ University referencing guides https://www.cqu.edu.au/student-life/services-and-facilities/referencing/cquniversity- referencing-guides Submission requirements You will see a link for submission of Assignment 1 in the Dashboard page and also in Week 9 for this unit in Moodle. Introduction
The project discussed in this report concerns a need of a client for constructing a home. The specific objectives of this pro
ject shall be to build and deliver the house, aligned and exactly as per the specific requirements of the client, within the agreed budget of AUD 500,000 and within the timeline of 12 months. This report discuses and proposes processes for project management which can be used for efficient management, building as well as delivering this home as per the requirements of the client. The project management shall incorporate lean management practices for making sure that this project adheres with the timeline and budget specifications. Essentially, lean project management (“Lean PM”) represents an application of the various concepts of lean like that of lean manufacturing, lean thinking and lean construction within the contexts of project management (Sunder, 2016; Bascoul et al., 2016; Sreedharan & Sunder, 2018). Lean PM holds various ideas that are common to other concepts of lean. The core principle, however, concerning the Lean PM lies in the delivery of increased value at lesser waste within the context of a project (Sunder, 2016; Bascoul et al., 2016; Sreedharan & Sunder, 2018).
Project Management Processes
At the outset, the undertaking of project management can be done using various frameworks that are available – Project Management Body of Knowledge (“PMBoK”), PRINCE2 and combination of best practices from various frameworks (Meredith et al., 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017; Fewings & Henjewele, 2019).
In the context of this project, PMBoK is proposed. The reason for the same is that this framework offers comprehensive range of tools and techniques that can choosen, adapted and employed depending on the project context (Project Management Institute, 2013; Meredith et al., 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017). Further, given the conventional and straight forward nature of this project, that is, building a home within specific budget / timelines, is a linear project which doesn’t need iterations or other such complexities, this framework is tested and widely used. PMBOK essentially presents the guide for project management that is designed, built and published by Project Management Institute (“PMI”) (Project Management Institute, 2013; Meredith et al., 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017). PMBoK is noted to be applicable for projects in varying size, length and complexity. These guidelines shall be suitably applied for projects that are either managed by single individuals or else by teams or else even with respect to project portfolio. This guide effectively aims in stabilizing as well as structuring the overall knowledge which is required for driving a project under the best of the conditions. PMBOK offers significant level of significance to the project customers as well as it undertakes effective job in describing the overall needs for identifying the customers, determining as well as managing their requirements (Project Management Institute, 2013; Meredith et al., 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017). In addition, PMBOK also effectively discusses overall needs for communicating with all of the stakeholders, inclusive of the manager, with respect to the progress of the project. PMBOK comprehensively outlines processes to identify as well as acquire resources with respect to a project. The same encompasses the description over the ways for reviewing resource related requirements as well as lays emphasizes on project contract itself (Project Management Institute, 2013; Meredith et al., 2017; Harrison & Lock, 2017).
Scope
In essence, scope refers to the specific boundaries of a project, that is, the determines what set of work shall be achieved over the lifecycle of this project. The same entails identification of the work which will not be part of the project task (Project Management Institute, 2013; Fewings & Henjewele, 2019; Radujkovi & Sjekavica, 2017). In the course of planning process for scope management, outputs shall be created for capturing as well as defining the work which shall be required in being completed. Later, controlling & monitoring process shall be concerned with the management of scope creeps, documentation, tracking as well as approvals / disapprovals to the project changes. Lastly, closing process encompasses the audit concerning project deliverables as well as assessment of outcomes with respect to original plan (Project Management Institute, 2013; Fewings & Henjewele, 2019; Radujkovi & Sjekavica, 2017).
With respect of the planning process, determination of the scope for this project shall be clearly specified by considering many different factors. This is crucial as varied set of factors have an impact over the ways in which scope shall be determined as well as how seamless / challenging this process shall be (Project Management Institute, 2013; Fewings & Henjewele, 2019; Radujkovi &...
