Annotated Bibliographies are very similar to an MLA Works Cited page, except that an Annotated Bibliography contains not only the CITATION for a particular source, but also the “annotation” which, for this class, includes the following: 1. A brief summary of the text, 2. A short analysis of what the text means, and 3. An evaluation of why the text is important to your inquiry, 4. Written in the 3rd person—it avoids personal pronouns. Why are Annotated Bibliographies Useful? An annotated bibliography can serve as a record for all of the texts, films, and Internet sources that have gone into research or reflection for a particular unit or project. In the academic world, annotated bibliographies are routinely used by researchers to document the resources that have informed their thinking on a particular subject or idea, so that researchers who come after them can utilize their work.
