CHEM1100 Experiment 4 Laboratory Report THE HEAT IS ON! Name Student Number Partner Demonstrator P Group and team Date lab completed This report template is to be completed and submitted through Blackboard within one week after completing your experiment. Please use Arial, Font size 11. The text boxes are fixed, please do not change these. Do not copy and paste text as an image into the text box. Introduction: State the purpose of the experiment and background. Experimental Section: Include a short general description of the experimental procedure for the calibration and hydrogen peroxide decomposition reactions. Remember to use the past tense, passive voice. Results Section: Using your experimental data, calculate the enthalpy of the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. You will first need to calculate the effect of the calorimeter and number of moles hydrogen peroxide used, from your data. Remember to include appropriate working and units. Use the hints in the Lab Manual to help you. Ccalorimeter (J K-1) Number of moles hydrogen peroxide added Calculation Value 1 Mass of solution (g) 2 Csoltn (J K-1) 3 tH(J) 4 rH(J) 5 Moles H2O2 (from above) 6 H H2O2 (kJ mol-1) Discussion Section: You must state the overall (main) outcome of the experiment. How does your result compare to the literature value for the enthalpy of decomposition for hydrogen peroxide? Include an evaluation of any sources of error and take into account how these might have affected your final results. References: Go to the UQ Library website. In the Search box type ‘Lipid calorimetry’. Follow the American Chemical Society referencing style to provide a full reference for the article by Dridi, Toutain and other authors in the journal ‘Food Chemistry’ from 2017. Remember that you practiced your referencing skills in the Pre-Lab Quiz for Experiment 1.

Introduction: State the purpose of the experiment and background.

Hydrogen peroxide is disproportionate reaction, which is very slow in process. The speed of reaction is increased by adding catalyst to hydrogen peroxide which lowers activation energy to initiate reaction at fast pace. The main objective of experiment is to study the influence of catalysts and nature of reaction either endothermic (or) exothermic by using calorimetry as a tool. FeCl3 solution is used as catalyst in this experiment for analysis with minimum of two run/trial of experiment to overcome marginalized error.
Experimental Section: Include a short general description of the experimental procedure for the calibration and hydrogen peroxide decomposition reactions. Remember to use the past tense, passive voice.

Calibration is vital for any experiments to begin as it helps to calibrate marginalized error, for example taring the digital scale before weighing. Calibration is performed using 25 ml...
