Types of Method for Data Collection
Organization is now a days building self-owned developed indigenous practices, intended to collect all the required information regarding their customers to not only compete with the market and other competitors but also allowing them to successfully survive in this so called cut throat competition. In order to cope up with this competitive world and market several organizations adopt different methodologies for successful process of data collection.
Primary Data Collection Method with Example
The most important methods and procedures of data collection undergoes through primary and secondary data collection. As stated by Prada-Ramallal et al. (2018), the primary data are collected through the researchers directly from the main source through conducting several interviews, surveys, experiments, projective techniques and many more procedures. For example, in case of primary data when doing the market survey, the goal and the sample of the survey population required to be recognized first.
Advantages of Primary Data Collection
On the other hand, the primary data collection method resolves the specific research issues. It provides better accuracy and the updated and current report and information. It maintains the authenticity and reliability.
Disadvantages of Primary Data Collection
It is too much time taking and costly methodology. Despite of the advantages of the primary data collection method, still it lacks certain criteria such as it has no control over the data collection.
Secondary Data Collection Method with Example
On the other hand, the secondary data are collected by the other researchers for other purpose other than the problem at hand. For example, information collected through census, government reports, internet search or libraries and many more. Basically, the secondary data collection help to identify the scope of the project, thereafter allows to write a brief and develop a proposal, design the data collection tools, design the analysis of the research and finally set the findings into context (Johnston, 2017).
