Crime and the Sentence
The crime and the sentence that is been taken int
o consideration here is channelized as the Coker V. Georgia case. In this case, the criminal Ehlrich Anthony Coker was serving several sentences for kidnapping, rape, first-degree murder as well as assault and was in jail. Later he escaped from the jail and broke into Allen and Elnita Carver’s home in Georgia and raped Elnita Carver and stole their family vehicle and escaped from the place instantly. Following this scenario, Coker was extensively convicted for rape, armed robbery, and several other offenses.
On the verge of the crime, he committed he was sentenced to death on the rape charge by the supreme court of Georgia. Ehlrich was involved in the rape and death of women in 1971 and 8 months after this incident he committed the same crime again, which was highlighted at that time as he ran from the prison and then committed the crime once again for which he was suffering harsh punishment (Call, 2019).
The court has channelized his death sentence on two basic grounds the first was Coker was a person with prior convictions for capital felonies and another reason that supported the sentence was the rape was committed in the course of committing another capital felony, the armed robbery.
